A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

ultrasound took off the carb clear coat on bowl and cap - what to recoat with?

my two outside carbs were shinier than the inside two. when ultrasound cleaning them, come kind of goop came off - looks like polyurathane or varnish.

I guess I could leave them plain alum but if I did want to recoat them, what would I use?

What were you using as the solution when ultrasonic cleaning?

It's normal for the two outside carbs to have shinny top and bottoms. Suzuki only put the polished caps on the outside carbs because they weren't visible on the inner carbs. It is a coating that is on them but I've never seen a need to re-coat them. If cleaned properly, they don't discolor easily. If you want to coat them, then use a 2k clear coat. If you try to use a simple rattle can clear it will bubble up if any gas gets on it.

Most of the old paint will come off in the ultrasonic it seems.

The before

And after of my 82 GPz750 carbs.I have used Dupli-Color high performance wheel coating because I'm close to the ocean here and even then polished pieces corrode.

Though a pic of the results after I painted the carbs with VHT satin black caliper paint.:D

Plan on painting my cards black as well but going to sand and polish tops and float bowls. Is it necessary to take carbs apart as in separate them to paint?

I took the GPz carbs apart to ultrasound them but I can't see any way to clean the carbs good enough to get into all the crevasses in the bodies.
