Was here long ago, now I'm back, after getting good info on clutch slipping, now need info on where to start rejetting after installing UNI foam filter pods, 1981 1100E, 22K miles, just replaced head gasket because of oil seeping, starts good, idles good, only 7000 rpm in any of the lower gears, little power on acceleration, ect. ect. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Supposed 115 are stock jets found info that 138 or there abouts should do the trick, oh one more thing, can this bike be made to run as well on these pods as on the stock air box???? Thanks a Million!!

The 138 mains are probably close. Test it at full throttle.
The Uni's WILL REQUIRE raising the jet needle AT LEAST one position, maybe two. Your jet needles aren't (if U.S. model) adjustable. You can try shimming the needles, or you need a jet kit if your needles aren't adjustable.
I can't help with shimming anymore than to say that a typical jetting spacer is generally .022" thick and two of them equals a full position change on the needle jet. But I suggest a jet kit for more precise adjustments, or in case I'm off on your models jet needle measurements.
You'll also need to richen the mixture screws, or possibly install larger pilot jets, and change the air jets, drill out the vacuum orifice to each diaphragm chamber...all this info would come with the jet kit. A vacuum synch is required for best performance too.
There's much more to re-jetting than just the mains.

UNI Pods

Thanks a ton Keith, will the experiments today.

now need info on where to start rejetting after installing UNI foam filter pods, 1981 1100E, 22K miles,

You don't say what exhaust? Anyway, my 82 1100E has just been throught the jetting process and is quite similar to yours. Setup is:

Pods (look like Emgo brand, but not certain on that)
Kerker 4-1 pipe
Stock cams, degreed to 110I/109E, correct OEM settings

My jetting at the moment is:
Mixture screws 3 turns out
47.5 pilot jets (stock AFAIK)
OEM needles on #3 of 5 grooves (the middle groove, that is)
142.5 Main jets (Mikuni jets)

The bike currently runs really well. I chased a stumble/flat spot at 6000rpm during roll-on tests that looks like a rich spot as the needles transition to the mains. It went away during my initial testing in cool weather, but has come back a bit with the warmer weather. I am probably going to go to the #2 groove (from the top) and shim them to get a #2.5 groove height. It is really close and this is really just fine tuning to satisfy my pickiness for really sharp, perfect carburation. Currently, I can idle down below 2500rpm and whack full throttle and it will simply pull hard all the way to redline without a cough or stumble.

this bike be made to run as well on these pods as on the stock air box????

Mine is very close. Maybe slightly fussier at low revs, but not enough to be an issue. And I am picky about the low speed/low rev running being very good, since this is where you spend all your time while in traffic.

BTW, my bike is getting high 40's mpg for mileage (imperial gallons, remember) and starts and idles very well.

I have an 81 and 83 1100E. The 81 has been jetted for a V&H header and pipe with stock air-box, the 83 has pods and 4-1 MAC pipe.

Jetting that worked for the 81- (maybe it will help you as some kind of reference?):
125 main jet (think it's DJ)
unadjustable needles at stock position
35 pilot jet
160 air jet

After much help from Keith, jetting that worked on the 83:
140 DJ main jet
DJ needles at middle position
40 pilot jet
170 air jet
