DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Now I know there isnt really a big diff but do the uni filters require oil? and are they worth it in the long run/value.

So even tho they are cheaper are they worth it?

I will be getting either or for both bikes listed in my sig.

I really like my uni. Yes you have to oil it. They offer superior filtration to stock and definitely more than K&Ns. They dont increase airflow as much as a K&N but I dont mind.

I disagree with the filtration vs K&N, but thats like saying my oil is better than your oil. Its subjective for the most part. And, despite popular belief, ALL filters require oiling at some point. That is part of what controls airflow as well. Just dont OVER OIL, as that will cause as many problems as no oil at all. It simply needs to be barely damp with oil.

So OEM or UNI im confused upon which one you are saying is better?

Uni is better than OEM, but IMO, NOT better than K&N. Again, however, this is subjective. Uni will likely outlast your stock filter, and filters MUCH better than stock.

Uni filters better than K&N. K&N have better air flow for go fast junkies.
I owned a Uni and I liked it. Clean it, oil it and go. As Josh states don't overoil it. You will run rich and foul plugs.

The OE filter on a GS550 is a piece of foam, same as a UNI. Some of the UNI filters I've seen have dual density foam - coarse on the outside and fine on the inside, not sure about the UNI GS550 filter though. The OE Suzuki filter is fine-pore so it will scrub the air better than a course-pore foam filter. I'd get OE filter unless Uni is cheaper.

Regarding K&N and Uni in terms of filtering, they are both quite poor. These filters tend to be low restriction and because of that, they don't filter the air that well. Read the linked test below for more information. After reading these tests I make it a point to use a lot of oil on my K&N to help mitigate their poor filtering.
