DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

unidentified vacuum(?) lines

Hi everyone,

When I got my bike there were 2 black hoses hanging off of it, plugged up with small screws jammed in them. One of them must have gone to the original petcock (PO replaced the petcock with a non-vacuum-operated one), but I have no idea which one it is or what the other one is.

If you look down at the carbs from the top (like you're sitting on the bike) there are fuel(?) lines running between the 4 carbs... and one line comes from carb #2, just a little to the airbox-side of the fuel rail; the other line comes from carb #3, just a little to the engine-side of the fuel rail.

Anyone have any idea?

Alex

There are two vent lines that run up and lay on top of the air box. The other, smaller tube goes to the vacuum port of the carb.

On VM carbs, there are nipples on carb #2, #3, and #4.

#2 and #4 vent to air and in stock form at least should have hoses that go over the airbox and in front of the rear tire. #3 nipple is your vacuum line that hooks up to the petcock.

so I should have 3 hoses? 1 going to the petcock and 2 with just open ends? I'll have to look more closely this afternoon. What exactly is the reason for the carb bowl vents going up over the airbox? Can I just leave them off, or will water get in there? I've heard of people having to leave them off when they add pods.

I"ve never ridden with with mine off. Its true that the recommendation is usually to leave the hoses off with pod modifications. The hoses are helpful to avoid carburetion problems in heavy crosswinds etc. from what I understand.

I don't think its a real big deal if you leave them off.
