A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

uh.. fix your cam chain tensioner.. also consult your manual and measure your cam chain for wear spec...

otherwise, I dont see anything really wrong other than the underside of your valve cover.. the "scorching" on your journals, ISNT, and everything else looks pretty normal for an 8V motor to me..

Copy and paste your img file right into your post for big beautiful pics!

Yeah when I rebuilt the tensioner I obviously didn't set it right when I thought I did. I will double check to make sure it is working right. What about the dowels on the cam caps? The journals do have some physical wear to them. I will try to smooth the valve cover so that bits will not go into my engine.

Did you have the jockey wheel fitted. Shouldn't it prevent the cam chain from coming into contact with the rocker cover.

I would just fit new dowels to the cam caps and reassemble it, fix the reason the chain is rubbing the rocker cover (either the jockey wheel or cam chain tensioner) and start riding it. If no abnormal noises then don't worry.

are you using the idler gear because if you are not then that would explain why your valve cover is getting worn by the cam chain see part #5 at least that is how it looks to me
and yes you do need those cam cap dowels

Sorry about the blurry pics. Yes the idler gear was bolted down. Very strange how the chain could do that to my valve cover. I am going to take apart the tensioner again and make sure it's working properly as well as when it is attached again. I recorded my shims and will do a valve clearance once the cams are back in place and TDC is confirmed. Where can I get some cam cap dowels??

Did you ever read through your welcome from BassCliff? :-k
Or were you one of the few that managed to slip through without one?

He has a bunch of vendors listed on his site, with some comments for most of them, but here is my personal shopping list.
Note that not all of these vendors carry all OEM parts, and it pays to compare all that you can. Don't forget to include shipping costs.

I just ordered some from bettoncourts and will pick it up when it is delivered. It is about a 20 min drive from my house. Not even sure why I asked where can I buy some dowels..
