    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Urgent: Leaving on trip tomorrow is this a NO GO???

Okay, If you've been following my sad saga -- I changed my rear wheel with tire for a newer one. In the process the bike fell off the center stand when both shocks were disconnected. The whole bike sank down onto the rear wheel -- the underside of the fender was resting on the rear wheel. My neighbor helped my lift it up so that I could get a shock back on the upper mount and I proceeded to change the tire. When all done I noticed some oil leaking out of the boot that seals the drive shaft -- gear oil.
The question is -- is something FUBAR? I am supposed to leave on a 700 mile trip tomorrow morning.
What do you think? :roll:
 
Well, leaks are certainly less than ideal before a trip like that.

I would thoroughly check for cracks or a problem with seals. Drive it up to you gas staion and back home, see what's what.

If there are no catastrophic problems visible what I would do is through a quart of gear oil in my saddle bag and go, but that's me, you will have to use your own judgement.

That's exactly what I'm doing. I can't see that what happened would have caused a major failure. I'm betting that the angle the bike was sitting at overnight caused some oil to puddle in the boot. It still dripped a little after a short ride but it did not get any worse. No level change in the secondary. - I'm going! :lol: :wink:
 
I'd wrap the leak up with a towel and some tie straps if it can be done safely. You don't want that oil getting on your back wheel if things get worse. I can't comment on why it would happen...I've got a beater chain bike. 8)
