Sealed is good !!
I suppose get the new vacuum hose and try it. Is there enough there to trim off the cracked end and re-install ?
If you were able to ride it 75 miles, it would seem it's something rather simple.
I don't know if this would be the right approach. I would try to get it running on the choke, then adjust the idle knob until it's idling high and ease off the choke. Keep repeating until it's idling properly. Since you've played with the idle knob, you may have got it really out of whack.
Again, I'm not an expert on these type of things. It's just something I would try. I was very lucky with my bike. No huge issues, basically a valve adjustment and carb cleaning.
