    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Valve Adjustments & Choke

Had a question before i take my valve cover off again.

I had removed the valve cover to replace the valve gasket. I figured while I was in there i might as well double check my valves.

Can too tight of valves prevent the bike starting with the choke on? I think I may have slightly overtightened one. Currently the bike will start with no issue with no choke. But if I put the choke on it stalls out and dies. Wasn't sure if something may have got the carbs dirty while the choke plungers were out, or if tight valves could cause this issue.

Carbs have been cleaned and it was running before if that is helpful.

Wow. That's interesting, but I doubt that is a valve problem. I'd still take care of the suspected tight valve. Sounds like maybe the engine is warm enough not to require choke? Ray
 
Sounds like it's too rich already. But, what have you done as far as carb work? Has everything been properly cleaned/dipped/orings replaced?

Mine does the same thing. I got mine set a little rich on the mixture screws. I figure it won?t hurt, not like it will foul a plug or use up the gas tank at a stoplight.

Carbs have been cleaned. All the O-rings replaced. Fresh carb boots all of that.

The only thing I haven't done is get the carb mixture screws completely tuned in. I don't have the tools and have been trying to do it by ear. But it was just strange that it worked previously with the choke and all the sudden doesn't.
 
I wanted to do a follow up:

I went ahead and pulled the valve cover off this weekend and found a couple of tight valves. I adjusted these put it back together and like magic I'm up and running again. Thanks guys.
