DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

After it stalls and has sat a while does it run ok then? Then start the missing and stalling over again?

Ya for the most part. The idle was pretty low - I dont have rpm hooked up so i can't say exactly, but it sounded like it was around 750ish - so I raise it up to about 1k.. The bike was idling better, wasn't misfiring nearly as much. SO I took it out for a ride go about three miles and the bike starts surging and stalls out. I shut it off waiting about thirty seconds and started it back up - road alright for about a block or two (had to keep out of low rpms) then it would start surging. I did this about 5 times until I got bike back to my parents house.

Prior to the valve cover replacement the bike was running pretty good ( a little lean) but wasn't bad. I'm thinking that when i was trying to get the valve cover off from knocking it around that I knocked some crud loose in the carb. Also the carb boot(not sure if im calling it the right name) that connects carb to the motor didn't have a gasket.

Shaking the tank while taking it off probably stirred up old silt. I would check the petcock screen and rinse the crap out of the tank while your getting the carbs rebuilt. Fully clean the entire fuel delivery system and put on new fuel line.

I'm looking at the carb rebuild kits on ebay and partnbuild more. Is it worth replacing the float need? Or should I just find out o-ring sizes and order them?

Dont get the rebuild kits. Just get a kit from cycleorings, com. Rebuild kits are a waste of money due to your buying inferior stuff and stuff you wont need is left over.

Cycleorings only has a kit for the 80-82 gs450 not the 83-88

I have a large supply of orings from Robert. Take some pics of the ones you need along with the ID and OD measurements and I can see what I have. You can have them free if I have them.

Youll need the fuel tube, mixture screw, and the float seat orings for sure.

I'm going to shoot him an email and see if the 24ring kit has the right sizes.

Another quick question - I have been trying to find a service manual for this bike, but I haven;t had any luck. Can anyone provide any info about the stock settings on the carb for when I rebuild it.
