Hey all, just picked this bike up last week and giving it a little love. I've put a video up. Are the valves/lifters usually this loud? The oil level is good. Disregard the bogging at the end of the video that's something else that I've now sorted out.

As for the 3 cylinders, it's getting spark so somethings up with the fuel. I ordered all new o-rings from a guy on here and will be replacing those this week. I'm thinking a jet got plugged from rust particles in the tank. Anything else I should check out when I tear it down?

Took forever for the vid to buffer, but for the 5-10 seconds I heard it, sounds like something heavier than a valve clack...more like a wrist pin or main bearings...sounded more like thunka thunka thunka than ticka ticka ticka .

Make sure all the wires are on the correct spark plugs.

If they are correct, check carb sync.

Don't really think it's carb sync, though, because that would have gotten smoother when you added throttle.

.

if that is a 750 be aware that it could be a rod bearing bad.
every 80-82 750 that has been brought to me for valve adjustments ended up having a spun rod bearing and the clacking sound was the piston hitting the head ever so slightly.

Im having the same noise in my 80 750 but it started after I rebuilt the carbs so I was thinking it was the carb sync that was bad.

Yes you need to run through those valves and. Carbs for sure. I can hear a little more than that as well.Isounds like its missing too. Are all the pipes warm to touch?

the 750's (80-82) i have checked out ran fine and all pipes hot but...
they had a spun rod bearing and a loose tappet like sound hence being brought in for a valve adjustment.
it has been common for me and the ones brought to me.

Interesting...I've done a Valve Adjustment on my 750T and it makes that clacking sound of the valves opening and closing. But since I installed my V&H pipes and changed out the main jets, my bike sounds great! Maybe I should load a video on PB like you did...then you can hear how good my bike sounds now. BIG TIME improvement since I removed those 40+ lb original exhaust pipes.

I found turning the radio wayyy up got rid of all the engine sounds....

well I rejetted and rebuilt the carbs and it's definitely still missing. Going to start with the valves, PO said he did them but who knows. and move on to timing. really hoping I don't have to deal with a spun bearing
