Hey guys,
I have been playing with this idea for so long and have come up with a design.
AFAIK this has never been done before.
I wanna design a variable inlet track, long inlet runners for low RPM and shorter as the RPM's go up.
It will be of the telescopic type, not the 2006+ R1 that has a velocity stack inside another, they separate at a certain RPM, (thats a half ass system)
The plan is to use the GS500 platform for testing purposes, as a proof of concept:
- Have the bike properly tuned on a Dyno, do tests with different intake lengths.
- Does it have the desired effect? if no then stop the experiment, if yes continue.
- Design the system, based on either the stock carbs or Mikuni VM's
- do some more testing, if it works then redesign the product for commercial purposes.
I have a friend that can actually design a programmable computer to control the servos.
It should become a bolt on item, including parts to relocate the battery, best is to use the stock carbs to keep the price down.
Of course this is the first stage, later on I wanna add air filters, a as-big-as-it-can-get airbox with ram air, but lets not get ahead of ourselfs.
The thing is, would people actually buy something like this if it give a couple of more HP across the RPM range? goal is to keep it between 300-400 bucks for the complete set.
I know the GS500 might not be the best platform but it's a proof of concept, later on i can utilize this on different bikes, maybe even four cilinders.
the GS500 is already fun to ride, but more power is always a good thing, and reliability is not a issue since the max power is not improved that much, the whole power curve goes up the chart.
Tell me what you guys think! would you buy it? (if it works hehe)
