A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I am getting ready to paint my engine. I have decided on VHT. I want to bake the parts after painting (200 degrees f.). I am wondering about the oil level sight glass and seal and the kicker seal. Should I remove them? is there a good way to do that? Should I then replace them?

Thanks,

you dont need VHT paint on the side covers. pj1 or sperex engine case paint will do just fine. mask up the seal and the side glass before spraying and then just put it in the oven for about 10 minutes until it is almost to hot to touch then remove it and leave it to cure for at least 12 hours.
VHT is for exhausts and cylinder heads

Seeing that the temp guage on the Cooley normally runs around 265 degrees I dont think an oven at 200 to 225 would hurt the seal or the glass.

Is there a disadvantage to using VHT on the covers, or an advantage to using pj1 or sperex engine case paint? I would just as soon use the VHT for everything unless there is a reason not to.

Thanks,

there is no advantage or disadvantage. i was just stating you dont really need VHT paint for the casings

You dont need anything really..I polish mine and a good liberal rubbing with WIZARDS POWER SEAL..ive had no corrosion what so ever on any parts ive used it on. I just refresh the seal every spring and they stay absolutely just as you started with.
