Well it's taking a lot of effort to get these carbs clean and the further I go into them the more damage I find. Turns out all 4 choke plungers and bores are scored and worn. GS750E was kind enough to send me two spare choke plunger assemblies he had but even between the 6 I'm unsure if I have 4 in good enough condition, never-mind the damaged bores. Each float bowl drain plug slot is ruined and most of the JIS screws are are stripped. Long story short, I found a set that looked to be in good shape on ebay and ordered them. Unfortunately they got damaged in transit due to poor packaging (I sent a message to the seller, we'll see how that turns out...), but I should be able to replace the damaged components with some from my old carbs.
Even with the shipping damage, these carbs appear to be in far better shape and aren't full of mud or old paint. I only took one apart so far to assess the condition and it looks great. I'll be cleaning and rebuilding over the next few weeks (I know, I'm slow. Lots going on).
