    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am trying hard to salvage a set of carbs for a 79 GS100EN to have for a spare set. I recently purchased a set of parts carbs with pieces missing which was understood right upfront. One of the items that is missing or damaged beyond repair is the choke pickup tubes which insert into the underside of the carb body and extend into the bowl. I can't even find them on a parts fiche and I've been looking diligently for a few days now.
Can anyone point me to a source or at least a fiche with a part number?
Or ultimately, if you have some to sell, I need 3 of them but would ideally like to have 4 since the one good one is bent slightly.
 
Sorry but you can't buy those separately. There are several posts referring to them and some ideas on what to do about it. (pretty sure we are talking about the same part, the brass tube in the corner of the carb body extending into the float bowl..)

Your best option is to make something or get another set of carbs
 
I received a nice email from Sudco in response to my inquiry about the choke pickup tubes. It confirmed that the tubes are indeed non-existent as a spare part. I have a good friend who restores high dollar model train engines. He has a mini lathe and a mini milling machine. It's time to visit Doug and see what he can make for me.

You can buy a set of used carbs for $50 or so, so consider the time factor before trying to repair your old set.
 
I understand where you're going with that advice Ed and normally it would be heeded. I have 2 complete sets of carbs now and this has become a challenge that I'm going to take up. Too many times the American way has become one of discard and replace instead of repair. I just hate to see 4 beautiful carb bodies scrapped as useless junk when all they need is a piece of 3mm tubing with a plug in one end and 3 holes drilled in it. Grrrr. I'm on it....

Go for it. I was just thinking of you using up your "favor points" with that friend of yours.:)
 
I did and they only stock inch sizes. Finding metric tubing and brass rod isn't a challenge. A couple of mouse clicks is all it took. Small drill numbered sizes are easy too but not in metric sizes. I already have those through size 80. I don't think it will make a difference in the choke supply pickup tube if the hole is 1/10000 different.
Machining is the only part that I can't do and I don't want to purchase a lathe and learn how to use it for this one item. I'm fortunate in having a friend with the tools and experience who can do the work. I'll just go with the tubing, rod and a case of beer under my arm and see what develops.
