Volt meter recommendations

Is that going to be a 3rd voltmeter?

I hope to be able to show my own installation soon. Having a backup bike sure does impede progress.

No going on a first Gen GSXR1100G

something like the attached.

OK, it only took me four and a half years to get this done, but here it is. I added an oil temperature gauge because, well, I just wanted to, OK? Anyhow, I can think of a certain mountain in WV that got me thinking about oil temperature.

So the story is, I spent several months searching off and on for a way to mount the gauges in a way that I liked and pretty much came up dry. I got distracted by several other projects, including getting a 3D printer. In 2011, that was even less of a plug and play thing than it is now, so I forgot about the gauges. Later, Steve pointed out that the 3D printer should be the solution to the gauge problem. Well, duh. I started playing with some ideas, but still didn't find a solution I liked. Then, after swapping on new bars after my low side, I noticed an obvious solution while the handlebar pad was off. The mounts shown below are the 3rd iteration. I plan to tweak them a hair so I'm looking at them more directly. Fortunately, I don't need to print another set to get that done. They're on the curved part of the handlebar, so I can just move them over a bit and they'll turn inward.

Clearly, I am not a videographer.

GS charging system veterans will notice the odd regulator behavior. That's the Cycle Electric 601 series regulator. (Don't hang it from the stock mount) Rather amazingly, I wired these in at the same time I installed the SSPB, and it all works. Apparently, I can follow instructions occasionally.

Any suggestions on how to waterproof them?

Looks very nice. I like the way they blink and drop down after power down. Are they showing the max since last power on?

I had one of the cheap blue LCD units and it quit working after a few months and wasn't waterproof.

I've had a Shoe Chrome knock off for a little over a year as I like to have the temperature and time as well. I made a cheap plexiglass housing for it and velcro'd it right below my cluster. I have a CompuFire 55402 on that bike and the voltage on the cheap knock off bounces up and down a bit, but there is a red light that flashes if it goes over 15V.

Really like what you've done there, the matching oil pressure gauge is nice. Your 850 just tuned 60K eh? That's great!

Curious how you'll waterproof them as well.

Looks good; I know I spent a lot of time figuring out how to mount my gauges. Especially with a fairing the whole thing is a real tricky fit.

Well done Dogma, 4 and half years to get it done but that's better than never finishing it. What are the gauges and where did you get them (or did I miss that post?).

During intervening time period did you ever have need of the gauges to show any electrical problems?

Posplayer, are you aiming for the flight simulator look?

Wow guys, very cool! I've got several things fighting for space on my little Euro bars, but maybe I will put a Show Chrome on the way shown. Years ago Dennis Kirk sold a voltage warning light that looked like a good solution, it indicated 3 or 4 voltage states and could be tucked almost anywhere - I envisioned mounted to a bolt inside a fairing. It disappeared from the lineup though and I haven't seen one like it since.

Nice set of gauges.
I'm going for marine gauges, ready waterproofed. Plenty of chandlers have them, and legend has it there are some who don't actually charge over the odds.

Yes, they show the peak values at shutdown. I think the voltmeter might be showing the minimum as well, but it's been a long time since I read what all these things can do. This isn't on the 850, it's the 1000. I don't think that 60k is right either. Not only have I spent significant time without a speedo cable on this bike, I'm not sure these gauges are the originals.

They are branded Swoosh. I found them on eBay. I didn't have any charging system events while waiting to get these mounted. But I did have a stator give up at a rally shortly before. That can make you want a meter. Fortunately for me, there was available room on a trailer headed the right way.

Thanks. You had posted pics earlier in this thread, but the links are dead now. Your setup is probably why the configuration I settled on came to mind as soon as I saw the space left by the handlebar pad.

I've just installed one of these:
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=692098
on my GS1000 dash pad using adhesive-backed Velcro. They are tiny, dirt cheap, and have a displayed resolution of 0.1 V. They are also quite accurate when compared against a quality digital multimeter. The only downside is they're difficult to make look integrated. On the upside, I'd rather know the health of my electrics.

Wow, a lot has changed on that bike since then. All the bodywork and front fender, exhaust system, mirrors, luggage, handlebars, headlight, front brake system... That's just the visible stuff. Just that brown seat and the MDI shocks remain. The shocks are next on my list. Not worth the money saved.

I kinda miss the bed liner.

There are some new super inexpensive gauges showing up on Ebay. Prices seem to have really dropped on a variety of gauges. The is even a 52mm 270 degree VDO style.

These are really cheap. One is an AFR gauge ???? Wonder what kind of sensor it uses.

ShowChrome knockoff at 1/2 the price.

These are not waterproofed like the expensive $5 units. But for $2.68 how can you go wrong?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-3-50-30-...7&pid=100005&rk=3&rkt=6&sd=301611670229&rt=nc

The high end model............

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Waterproof-...7&pid=100005&rk=2&rkt=6&sd=301611670229&rt=nc

I was looking at a a similar listing last night, $.02 more than the "high end, expensive waterproof model" here:

http://m.ebay.com/itm/301611670229?...3D271860846656&_trksid=p2056116.c100107.m2460

For $5 and 3 weeks shipping, I'll spring for one. If it fails, I'll go for the ADV model sealpup listed above.
