A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So you didnt change them??? Even if they "look" alright, they likely arent. If they are flat, dry, cracked or even old looking, and not round, replace them. They are letting air in. To test this, when the bike is good and warm and off choke, spray some carb cleaner around where the rubber boot meets the aluminum head. If the idle speed changes, you are leaking. THIS WILL make you lean, and get worse and worse. DO check those valves as well.

Well, I'm placing an order for some fork parts to stop my leaky for soon, so I'll throw in new boots and o-rings for good measure. I'm also ordering my new helmet. I saw it and fell in love with the graphics so I went to a local bike gear retailer and tried one on to make sure it fit well and was comfortable. What do you guys think of it?

Comes in this color too. Made by KBC, the model name is FFR. It's a full face flip up with a chin button, a pop up air vent on the top. Its a little heavy since the mechanism for the flip up function is all metal, but its not heavy enough to make my neck/head hurt on long trips.

Bike bandit has the cheapest prices besides ebay on them at about $170. I'm gonna order it tomorrow, and I'm considering going with the black and grey one since it will match my bike better.

Well my next and most important question is since its a modular, is it QUIET?? Most are obnoxiously noisy. Which is why i dont already have one.

Well. They didn't let me run out of the store and go for a ride on my bike with it, but noise doesn't bother me much. I've just been using an open face brain cage and I can't hear much over 35mph anyways but I'll let you know how it is when I get it.

Alright. Messing with the air box and mixture screws still didn't fix the problem. I'm just going to clean the carbs and tank again tonight and hope that helps. Anyone know what my float height should be for a 82 GS450GAZ?

I just realised that I never gapped my spark plugs when I put them in, I just pulled them out of the box and tossed them in. NGK B8ES. Could this be causing my lean condition? Because seriously, I took my tank off, pulled the petcock, washed the tank out and the tank was as clean as can be and my petcock wasn't clogged or old looking and it operates the way its supposed to.

What should I gap B8ES' at for a GS450GA?

Well, the gap doesn't matter, the service manual is on the way so if no one knows I will look in there. The only thing that changed before it started running real lean again was an oil/filter change and new spark plugs.

Does anyone know if plugs that are not properl gapped could make the bike run lean?
