A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

after digging around my new gs550 i think its missing the signal generator and i know the 2/3 coil. the 1/4 coil i have is dead and the PO seems to have hacked most of the wiring harness apart.

The SG is supposed to be under a cover a few inches toward the front of the bike from brake pedal right? i have the cover but there is a nothing behind it and a hole in the bottom where i think the wires are supposed to go based on pics i found elsewhere on the site. 2nd pic on this thread http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?t=130492&highlight=igniter+test

after testing the 1/4 coil i have with instructions i found here as well it is dead.

I tested the igniter it seems to be good though im not sure i tested it right. it has continuity on the + side from the connecter to where the coils hook up and both neg wires to/from their respective coil hookups. is there a better way w/o good coils?

if im reading right the dyna s will replace the SG and igniter (but i have to find a mechanical advance from an older bike ?maybe?)? not sure if its worth finding a stock SG then having it or another 26 yr old part die. If i get the dyna is this the right one http://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=439 with http://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=210 in either case?

on the plus side after turning the engine over a few times i have oil pressure and good compression.

The Dyna S version is tied to the type of mechanical advance – ND or KD. Since you don’t have a mechanical advance, I suggest you find one first before ordering the ignition system that will match it.

its an 82 so im not sure if thats the right kit or if i even need an advancer i can't seem to find one for the 82

The electronic ignition systems were made by ND and had a mechanical advance; ’80 – ’82 is the same. You can also get an advance mechanism out of a points bike as well. It doesn't matter which advance you get, just order the Dyna S to match. Only trick is you might have to play around with the thickness of the aluminum washer that adjusts freeplay on the rotor - send me a PM if you need more information.
