    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey everyone, I have a 77 gs550 which i've had since last season. Its a great strong bike. When it was time to drain the gas over the winter, I guess I did it from the feul filter side, not the carbs and messed it all up. I took it to a mechanic to have the carbs cleaned out. Picked up the bike, we got it started, it started reluctantly. Rode it around for a while, she purred like a kitten. Went home for about an hour, went back out and no start...the engine turns, and revs to about 4000 rpms then craps out. I did notice that they also replaced my feul filter, but it is a lot smaller than the one that was there before. Could that have anything to do with it? AND to make matters worse, they came to pick up the bike and called me 20 minutes later saying that it started right up. I took it to work that night, it sat for 8 hrs and the same thing happened to me...rev then crap out and nothing, not even a push start helped.
any ideas?????[-o<

Yes, some filters ARE too restrictive for our bikes.
Instead of playing guessing games:
For a sanity check, get a big transparent fuel filter (automotive style) and transparent fuel lines so that you can see if the fuel is actually flowing in all operating conditions.
Some bikes have a filter/screen in the tank itself which makes an external filter unnecessary.

aside from giving that a shot, i am picking up a high performance battery today. since I just had a cheap battery from last season that has been recharged a few times already.....here we go.. thanks!
 
Lose the filter. The petcock has a very fine screen that negates the use of an inline filter. The new filter you have is most likely restricting the fuel flow. Try a straight fuel line from the p/c to the carbs.
