    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Washed Bike now starter won't engage?

Took my bike down to the carwash and washed it up but when I was done I tried to start it and it turned over a few times and then went dead. Now all I hear is the solenoid clicking whats up is something wet or shorted out?Anybody ever have this happen to them? Thanks for any help.

You may have gotten water in the starter, depending on how much you sprayed down there. If you used the high pressure wand at the car wash, that's probably it. I'd let it sit out in the sun for the day, maybe lay it over on it's side, and let it dry out.
You could have also gotten the kill switch wet, but if you hear the solenoid click, I doubt it. Wouldn't hurt to spray some WD-40 in there though.
 
Spray a short blast into the kill switch. I wouldn't advise taking it apart, prbably lotsa small nasty springy boingy parts in there that *WILL* get lost if you were to attempt it (Murphy's Law, accept it now, it's less frustrating).
If you can, take the starter cover off and spray some WD in there as well, after most of the obvious water is gone.
If it still won't start, try and give the starter a whack or two with a small hammer. Not to hard, no need to smash it, just loosen it up a little.

Now, this is all assuming (uh oh, the ass outa you and me thing) that it is water that caused this. If it was coincidence that the battery happened to die while at the car wash, or your stator quit two days ago and the battery finally ran out of juice, then you'll be starting over.
With that said, have you checked the battery? Can you push start the bike and make sure the charging system is working?

Battery and Charging system is fine , just alittle push and your off and running.And when I turn the key on the lights are nice and brite.

Do a complete electrical connection clean up((THE WHOLE BIKE)) . You will never be sorry. :D

Well I found my problem. I pulled the starter took of the back case where the brushes are and they had turned to dust and fell out wasn't much left of anything. So out I went to my local salvage yard and $159.95 later with new starter in hand I installed it then the big moment of truth it turned right out and started without any problem. Thanks for all your help.
