All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I get this metal to metal sound around 3,500 RPM. Once it hits 4,000 its gone. Its like a chattering sound. Is this valve chatter?

Can you post a video?
Or does it just happen under a load going down the road?

Daniel

Things that have caused rattles at various RPM ranges on my bike:

1. Loose exhaust shield
2. Loose front fender rivets (yes, even sitting still!)
3. Cam chain tensioner
4. Tach cable end came loose (slid down cable and was jiggling against the headlight ears)

When it was the cam chain tensioner, I could rev it and actually see the handle vibrating in the affected RPM ranges. Make sure you know what you're doing before you go playing around with the tensioner if that's it...

Things that have caused rattles/noises around 4K on my bikes.
Loose heat shield on the GS1100E. Actually thought it was a baffle in the exhaust. I replaced the heat shields, but there's one screw I can't get to underneath and forward and sometimes I still hear it on hard accelerations.
Loose header pipe on the GS1000E, just tightened and that went away.
Gas tank on my GS1000E, the rubber mount underneath the tank was missing when I got the bike. I later found it sitting on the top of the swing arm in front of the rear tire, oh this was after I ordered and replaced the missing one.
License plates on both bikes, sounded like a horn, just tightened them up.
Loose crossover on GS1000 exhaust, tightened up the clamp.
Hopefully yours will be easy to find and fix.

I will check that out. Looks like I need a new RR for the charging system. I will get that first.

I fixed it. It was the heat shield for my L pipe. Thanks guys!
