    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I know that a picture would be the best way to show the thing that I am asking about, but my camera is at work....so I'm gonna try to describe this thing as best I can....and maybe someone will know what it is.....it appears to be a fitting of some sort that comes out of the head of the engine and it sits just under the carbs....it appears to have some sort of hex head on it and it is a 90 degree piece.....is it possible that this is some sort of crankcase ventilation or something of that nature and if so is it something that I need to try to remove and clean while the carbs are still off the bike? If no one can figure out what it is that I am asking about, I'll try to get a picture and post it maybe tomorrow....

Hope someone out there knows what I am talking about and can shed some light on it for me......

Probably the cam chain tensioner. Does it have a large hex with a spring on it and 2 bolt mounting?
 
Does it have a spring coiled all the way up it? If so it is the cam chain tensioner. NO DO NOT REMOVE IT!!!. There will be others along shortly to explain how you service it, how to tell mif you need to service it etc etc..
 
Yep....it has the spring and a large hex head....and you can betcha prize winning rooster...... :eek: I ain't touching it :eek:.......does my bike (450LX) have any type of crankcase breather that I do need to service? :confused:

Its on top of the valve cover. Order a new gasket for it first. The old ones usually rip, take off the little cover and clean out the space and metal mesh. Theres not much too it.
 
look on the tiop of the crankcase ( cam) cover.. is there a fitting on there with a nipple sticking out facing the back of the engine? I am not too familiar with your bike, but thats where mine is at on the 750. A plasitc tube connects between that nipple on the top of the engine and the top of the stock airbox.
 
Hey brother..where are you located? There are many parts fiches on line for these bikes. Bikebandit.com has all the schematics.
 
The crankcase breather is atop the valve cover. Under normal circumstances it does not need to be serviced. I had a gasket and was going to clean it but couldn't even get it off. So I left it alone.

If your cam chain tensioner is leaking oil you might consider rebuilding it. Here's Mr. Bwringer's page on doing so:

That won't look exactly the same as yours, but should look similar. The replacement seals and o-rings (NOT the gasket - order one off of the cam chain fiche for your model) will be the same part numbers.
