what did you wrench on today??

Put the new starter clutch in the 1100G powered 1000G. All finished except for rewiring the alternator, which I hard wired two years ago. Now the wires are too short. I got too cold to finish today. Solder six connections, reinstall the airbox, fuel tank, and side covers, and that's it. Probably finish tomorrow.

I now have a spare starter clutch kit for a 1000G, as I did not know it was an 1100 until after trying to install the 1000 kit.

Also worked on a '92 Poleris Indy Trail Deluxe. It had the wrong nuts on the back of the starter.

Here are the lower forks of the '73 Z1. I got one done today. They, along with the other pieces, were in not so good condition.

'96 Ford Econo, AOD tranny filter and front seal. Well, the filter atleast, it was time for the SuperBowl and moskeeetos. Tranny drop and seal, tomorrow. Oh were talking fun now.

rebuilt the tensioner (that was in the locked service position for some unknown amount of time=running without a tensioner) on the GS750

Not today, but yesterday.
New air filter into the Beemer and sorted out the idle valve on the girl friends grocery getter.

Changed the front sprocket yesterday. Didn't get to test ride it until tonight and all I know for sure is that is still pulls away from a stop without drama. Only rode in the cul de sac across from the house.

just took apart my carbs and cleaned everything on my 79 gs550 for the first time ever.... only took me about 6 hours lol

Checked why my battery was flat this morning... only had 5 minutes but pretty sure my stator is toast

Completed rewiring the stator and reassembled the 1100G powered 1000G. prepared to start it, and determined that the choke cable was seized. Removed the tank and removed the choke cable. Broke the cable trying to free it up. Found that I had a set of stainless allens for the engine cover from Z1 in a box of parts, so that got installed. Choke cable is on order.

Today I took the carbs off my 7900 mile blue 1100E & put the Factory Pro needles in them & cleaned them out. Bike fired right up!!! My buddy GregB put the coil relay in for me & installed the Honda r/r & next is the Kerker that goes on temporarily till I get my Bassani fixed & ceramic coated. It sure did make me happy to hear it run!!! First time in over a year that it has run. Got the carbs real close on the first try too!!! I didn't have 50 pilot jets to put in it so drilled the 45s .003 bigger & haven't even touched the mixture screws from where I base lined them 3 turns out. :D Ray.

Ray, I'm going to assume you've experienced ceramic coating before given what you do with these GS'... but let me just say that I'm loving mine on the 450's pipes. I'm not going for performance gains but am very much enjoying the cooler outside compared to chrome and with the pipe running under my ankle I'm not even noticing it there, and I love the finish compared to chrome also...

Anyway, what I've been doing and neglected to update this thread with...

Replaced the stator on Saturday.

Got the tool tray under the tail piece in and sorted yesterday with some tools in there so I don't need to lug my tank bag everywhere now.

And tonight I did some wrenching on the garage, putting a shelf and some hooks up.

That looks hauntingly familiar. I purchased that exact bike brand new.

The first year of that style was the first full sized bike I ever rode. 1969 I think?
It was a gold one.
Prettier than the previous year with the chrome side covers and fish head shaped tank. Was it the Cobra?

To me, the Titan tank is reminiscent of an Atlas tank, particularly the creases along the upper sides.

then this one looks just like it. i picked it up from a guy who bought it from the original owner a few months ago. chrome, paint, seat, etc 98%+
like it came off the showroom floor. starts instantly, rides terrific. only negatives are the tach needle is broken off and its got a sticking right float.

I finally finished the bass violin project today. It looks pretty good and plays well too. That's all the "wrenching" I've been doing for quite awhile now, 3 weeks, I think to get it out the door.

I took pictures all around to show the old finish cleaned up and the new neck I carved and installed. The stain colour isn't quite the same as on the body of the bass as I ran out of red aniline dye, but it's close enough. It's a loaner bass that the Heartland Symphony Orchestra that I play in owns. It's an Anton Schuster bass, made in Germany in the 1930s.:D

If you ride it watch out for the shocks. That was the first bike that introduced me to hard-in-the-curve wobble. Most unsettling.
I liked mine a lot. As you said, started instantly, plenty of power for the day, comfortable ride. My wife and I would regularly ride down to Galveston for the day and were very comfortable on it two up.

Installed a new chain on the GPz. The old one was stretching like a rubber band. Should be good for another 20k or so. Hehe.

I wrenched on, well... wrenches... tonight... doing the anal retentive get-them-all-in-size-order-on-the-peg-board thing.

Next up is the same for the sockets...

Nearly finished getting it all sorted which means finishing touches on the 450 and then I can start on the Ducati... nice :D
