A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What do u guys think about accelerator pumps?

Bikes that need them get better throttle response, not faster.
Bikes that don't need them don't need them.

we had em in rochester carbs for jeeps in the day.
They work when needed but not when not needed.

I got a buddy with some Kaw 29s with the pump he wants to sell. Wants 450.00 ..Had them bead blasted on outside but i think they will need gone thru though

Gabriel, the pump's function is to add fuel when the carb is running too lean. For example, if you are running at low rpm and nail it with older style (weren't they VM?) carbs, there would be lots of air, not enough fuel, and the engine would bog. My 78 GS750 did that, and was the reason I sold it. An accelerator pump would add fuel during that lean period and it would accelerate faster, but all it was really doing was compensating for a design flaw. The CV carb's design fixed that problem and the pumps are no longer required.

I drove carbureted cars built from 1954 to 1982. They all had pumps. Some worked well, some did not.

I have a Harley carb off of a late 70's bike that has a pump. The only thing that it will do once installed (not on a GS), will be to make the jetting a little more refined on the low end blasts...

Some big Kawasaki's had VM28's w/accelerator pump, but no 29's. And these carbs are not in the "smoothbore" family, but rather the OE design like our VM26's. Worth maybe $150 on a good day.

The accelerator pump's purpose is to inject a shot of fuel and richen the mixture when you grab a handful of throttle, which causes the mixture to go momentarily lean. Useful device to be sure, but it won't generate more power other than avoiding a possible flat spot in the mixture during fast throttle transitions.

He was reading the dial calipers and i did the conversion on the calculator..maybe they were 28s then..he may have read the dial wrong..anyways yup they look like 26 but with the pump. I dont know about Kaw carbs and all i know is that he said they were off his 76 Kaw 900. He says he bought the bike new in San Diego.
