Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

What do you do to winterize your bike?

I hate to say it but here in NW Indiana it is getting to that point. This is what I normally do to prep for the winter season. Put Stabil in tank, run for a few miles, and fill up with fresh fuel. Drain carb bowls, pull battery and put inside on a trickle charger. Put bike on centerstand and cover up with blankets or bike cover. If I get a decent enough day I also wash, towel dry and wax if possible. What do you do your bike before it goes into hibernation?

Winter? What's that? There's usually only about a month to 6 weeks down here in Dallas that are REALLY too cold to ride, so I just go out and start her up in that ICE COLD 45 degree weather.........:-D

I put it on the centrestand with a full tank of gas, either start it or ride it at least twice a month, you might see me riding on January 15th, if it's above 30 deg. F and there's no ice on the road.........:-D :-D

Tornado,

As much as you might miss hearing the old girl, you are probably doing more harm than good by starting her up. Unless you can get out for about a half-hour ride, things will not get warm enough to eliminate all the condensation, and things like the mufflers will rust from the inside out.

I've been doing it that way for years without issue, on every bike I've ever had. I typically will let them run long enough to reach operating temperature, and then some. As opposed to rebuilding the carbs every spring, I think I'll take my chances...........

Not a thing here. :-D

I'm glad, too. Sounds like a royal pain having the weather force you off your bike for so long. Heat will keep me off mine, but then it's an option, not forced. I don't like to sweat.

I plan to just keep riding mine this winter when it's not raining or icy (not much snow here in SW Washington State).

all the above, and fog it, put a plastic bag over air box/carbs.

What he said... I'm with Tornado.

battery charger on it every now and then (a home made one) and ride it at least once a month.

Motorcycles don't need rest!

Motorcycles don't need rest!

i'm in the middle tn area, and it's getting cold up here.... heated had grips, heated cloves, full-face helmet, and no fear of shrinkage is the only way i get to work. an all out downpoor can't stop me! ICE???....we'll see, but i'm thinking fine chains and a slower pace...that or spikes. if you see my bike on a trailer, CALL 911!...that or i've got this hole ice idea wrong and you see my bike on a trialer after someone called 911

keep tank full, grease all moving points. once every month or two. drain gas into truck, keeping enuff gas to run 10 miles. ride around town for 1/2 hour or more. refill tank with fresh gas and stabal.

1. change oil
2. fill it up and put a lot of stabil in the tank, drive it home (I don't drain the carbs)
3. put it on the center stand and air down the tires to 15lbs (I balance it so that neither tire is on the ground)
4. let air out of the forks
5. put a rag soaked with wd40 in air intake
6. blow wd40 into the mufflers until it runs out the drain holes
7. plug the mufflers with a soaked rag
8. pull the battery and put it on a tender
9. lube the chain and the forks
10. cover it with a sheet then the vinyl cover
:-D Did I forget to say kiss her goodnight?

WD 40 into the muffler

WD 40 into the muffler

I live in MN and I am starting to think about winterizing my bike. No one from Texas need respond :D.

What's the scoop about squirting WD 40 into the muffler? Who else does this?

Thanks!

WD-40 WD=Water Discplacement. I think it prevents rust by displacing the water that may be in the exhaust system.

1. change oil ...

I've heard this recommended before, but I never seem to find the time or incentive once it's cold. I have to wonder why it matters if I always change it to start the season.
