    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I first wanted to thank everyone for this great resouce. With info I compiled from the forums, I was able to replace the top end gaskets (the previous owner (Harley Rider) had used bondo all around the base gasket in what I assume was an attempt to bandage a pretty bad leak. I also ordered the carb gasket kit that was recommended here and stopped a pesky carb leak. Now I can proudly say, even at 100mph + not a drop of oil and no smelly garage. Best of all, I only missed 3 days of riding (not to shabby, since I work 6 and a half days a week).

Now to my appearance queston-
Pardon my Photoshop skills (or lack thereof)
My seat is ripped and I don't care for the style- I was thinking about pulling the cover off and shaving the foam to look something like the last picture. Is this a DIY job? Has anyone out there attempted this or had an upolstery place do it? Cost? What do you all think of the look (be honest)? Thank you for your answers in advance-
 
I pulled back the cover and shaved it with a filliting knife. I think it turned out pretty good!

There was no cost, and maybe an hour of work.

the photoshopped version looks 10 times better.
 
I like your idea, but have a professional shop do it. This is a '78 GS1000C, I had the seat cut to make it like an "E". It didn't cost too much, I paid $150 a few years back to have it done. Notice the cover is tight and smooth, no "Cellulite". Well worth the money for such a visible part of your bike.

you have to do that to that nasty seat u got there. it's a much cleaner look for that bike. i also think you should go to a shop and have it done, but if your a do it yourself kinda guy then go for it. either way it's a must for your ride good luck J.W.
