    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

When I was younger...much younger...I rode this up to station five on Mount Fuji.

Station five is the highest you can go on a vehicle. About 7,500 feet. I rode up there in July, during the climbing season. Lots of twisties in the Hakone/Fuji Five Lakes area.

We decided to run up there again in October. I don't think I was dressed more than what you see in the pic. I froze my nuts off! It was definately below 0 C. Funny thing is, I remember sweating inside my helmet, and the sweat was freezing on my visor! We were on the east side of the mountain, late in the day, when the sun was off on the other side.

My fingers and toes were very happy to get back down to sea level. Oh, and my not yet wife was riding pillion. She married me anyway. Guess she got brain damage frm the cold.

Back to topic. 2 years ago I did a ride to Longmont Co. on Thanksgiving. It snowed a few days later and I was stuck there for 3 weeks until it cleared up. Coldest riding I ever did. I guess I'm not a snowy, icy freezing your butt off kind of guy. I'll stick with California. What really got me was there were people riding out there with no helmet and just sunglasses on but of course with the full compliment of leathers on. I thought their heads would be froze off. :shock:
 
Coldest on the bike was about 30F.

Coldest on the sled was about -15F.

I don't like riding on the street when there can be ice on the road.
 
-18 C me and my friend on our dirtbikes. Had to have mine jetted huge, If i opened her all the way up the float bowl would empty lol
 
Coldest weather I've ridden in is generally in February.
Going to work in the morning, it can get as low as 28 to 30, though that's only a couple mornings here and there. Luckily, it's only 10 miles to work on surface streets. I average 35 to 60 coming in. So with the wind chill, it's pretty cold.
Keep in mind I've lived in So. Cal all my life so I'm not used to really cold stuff. But I really prefer to ride in than drive. So I put up with it.
 
Rode the GS last Friday, it was about 28F or so at 8am... daughter (11) rode with me... we bundle up, and she's ALWAYS raring to ride a bike with me.

Today, we rode the Wing, and it was about 35F or so. All smiles again from both of us.

I'd be all over Winter riding if I had one of those cool dirt bikes like Shirley has now! But, I'd really like an old SL350 honda... Too many dreams, not enough money or real-estate...!

Oh well... pics of other's cool stuff is good enough. So long as its not icy, I'll be riding! To heck with the thermometer.

I used to ride in temps that were around 10F, or so, but I had a snowmobile suit and couldn't afford the gas for my truck. Now that I am old, I really don't ride much in weather much colder than the mid thirties. Where I live now, in SouthEast PA, it doesn't get too cold, but they cover the roads here with salt and cinders. I have almost gone down sliding on cinders, so that is what I am most worried about.

I was out this morning, and it was in the lower thirties, but I only rode for about half an hour. I am a wus!!
 
The coldest I rode in last year temp last year was 17 f. I did a little over 100 miles on the GS that night. For added warmth, I was using an Areostitch Electric vest.

This year I went with Gerbing's Jacket Liner and their G3 electric gloves.

On a bike the coldest was around -15 F. only way to get to work at 2 am at that time. old yamaha 250 street. on snowmobile the coldest was - 34 F going to a communications site on a mountain top at 12000 ft. 13 mile ride on the sled at 3 am in the morning.
 
in 1972 i started from boca raton at 2:30 pm eastern time december the week of christmas and rolled in to the driveway at home in paducah, ky at 6:00am central time with ice from my knees to my boots. i couldnt undress without help.
it was probably just below freezing. its that hour after hour of pounding wind-chill that makes travelling all night miserable but memorable.

I was worried the first time i went out in 30F weather (fourth time riding). don't know what the fuss is all about. could use some warmer gloves, but with thermal underwear, woolsocks, regular clothes, denim coveralls and riding jacket i was quite toasty. need a balaclava, but i'll probably be riding to work until it gets to about 20F, or snowy.
 
Around -7 or 8C.
When the fog starts freezing on your gloves, jacket, visor you know it's cold.

Black ice can be a real bitch too.

All i can say is, I love heated grips!

You are correct, and if you wrap them around your neck and seal the bottom of your helmet with them, they will keep the wind out.

I rode my bicycle up to stage 3 on Mt Fuji. Took about 2 hours to climgb it, 75 mph going down. I'm convinced of the quality of Klein frames after that, not a shimmy or shake at all.

I've been to all the 5 lakes in yamanashi prefecture, how about you?
 
I rode to work this Morning, 31°F.
I've ridden on colder days, but it is a 22 mile ride to work.
The first 15 miles was no problem, the last 7 was COLD!

I need to get one of those balaclava's for the face.
An electric vest and gloves would have been and welcome addition!

I used to have a GS1000L with a full Vetter fairing with lowers,
it's amazing how much difference those lowers made, kept the wind off
and allowed engine air to swirl around on your legs.. it's a good thing.

It was 0 this morning, but the bike stayed in the garage. The streets are still not quite clear enough to guarantee dry and clear pavement. But it's improving.\\:D/ The bike's going to be a bear to start next time, though!
