A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

That 5W-40 Rotella will be thicker than 15W-40 when the temps are really hot so not sure what you are trying to accomplish.
Hmm...they should be the same at higher temps as I understand it, but differ in cold weather, no?

well i pulled the breather hose off this morning and guess what the leak stoped so far. but i still will change the oil out to the 15w-40 as hot as it is here i don't think it would hurt.when it gets around 50 i will prob go back to the 5w-40 but thanks yall for the help i needed it .as many problems that i have had to fix on my bike by now i should just about know it inside and out lol

Synthetic oil is more stable at killer high temps, such as getting stuck in traffic on a hot summer day. It has a higher flash point and doesn't thin out as much under extreme conditions.

The 15w40 won't be ANY thicker than the 5w40 in hot weather. The synthetic oil will give slightly better protection in extreme temperatures, so if anything you're better off leaving it in place.

20-50 Golden Spectro

20-50 Golden Spectro

I know I'm new to all this but I have read some good articles on Golden Spectro. I really just got back into bikes. I spent $450 on a 82 GS650L. Went through the reg maintence: new plugs (NGK), K&N oil and air filter. When I drained the oil, there was a good amount of gas mix in the oil. I think this came from the broken petcock valve, letting gas flow into the crankcase. Well I thought "Why not spend a little extra on good oil"? So I bought 3 qrts of the 20-50 Golden Spectro (almost $10 per qrt). Hope this helps.

I know I'll cop a belting over this , but .............
I use a 40W70 , which is about a 50W , mineral in my 'S . Gulf Western Comp 50 Plus for any Aussies interested .
I'm living in the tropics though .

Cheers , Simon . :)
