If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

According to the GS750X-16 valve pdf obtained from bikecliffs website there is some disparity between what is on my bike and what is not.

For example below:

Which shows the oil filter cover and oil pressure (switch...sensor?) - there is on my bike what looks to be an oil cooler (not mentioned in PDF) and another dangly bit that spins with a square "entrance" to it (Also not mentioned). WTF is that?

Separately and not specifically asking from this forum thread for 4 cyl eng/drv/clutch is what looks to be an air hose that hooks up to the top of my forks (See link below), also not mentioned in the manual, any pointers to these parts would be appreciated, a great deal more appreciated would be specific documentation for the L line bikes with these features from around 1981.

My apologies for sounding stupid and or terse if I do.

Definitely an aftermarket/homemade set-up. Oil coolers are a good thing.
The knob out front would be a spin-on oil filter. Strap wrench to remove it and take the old filter to Napa/Oriellys and they should be able to match it.

Looks like yours has a bit of a leak. Same as the stock set-up there should be a rubber gasket or o-ring on the back of the spin-on canister.

As far as the hoses on the forks it is hard to tell but it looks the previous owner had added as air-assist to the forks. One of the tubes would be a crossover to keep the air pressure balanced between the fork legs.

Aftermarket parts all. I'd ditch the lot. The air fitting is for adding air to the forks, which will feel soft without air. I'd get rid of that junk and install some stock caps along with some nice Sonic springs so you don't need any air. Regarding the oil cooler, it's not needed unless you plan to do track days. That model 750 is one of the few GS's with a less than bulletproof engine; oil pressure issues can wipe out cranks and cams. There is a fix that involves shimming the oil pressure relief spring that's located in the sump to help offset this issue. Adding an oil cooler will cool the oil but it will also add pressure loss to the system which that engine doesn't need. Regarding the spin on filter I can only ask why? The stock setup is simple, proven, and you can get a filter at a multitude of sources. A spin on filter is the answer to a question that doesn't need asking.

Nessism, Steve that all looks to be correct as you, except for the spin on oil filter, I believe the filter sits behind the plate as per usual, today's exploratory surgery surely will tell, thank you both for the input. Nessism your newbie mistake write up is certainly a help right now :D

Fantastic! These diagrams are very useful. I used the ones from a yamaha site to reassemble to my yamaha. This is great thank you very much~

I suspect the unidentified part is a temperature controlled valve for the cooler. Never seen that particular one but some of the Lockhart coolers had a temp valve.

That would make sense. After taking off the oil filter cover...and breaking said temp valve connector I am now looking for a stock oil filter cover but cannot seem to find one, any pointers towards websites that may carry one? 🙏
