DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I've posted a few different threads in appearance from my current build. Now it's time to start thinking paint. I'd like some feedback to see what the greater mind of TGSR comes up with.

I've done a stock rebuild on my 82 GS850GL. Frame off and took my time making it look good. I've gone through every bolt, screw, wire, crack and crevice. It came with the PODs and V&H pipe. I'll stick with those.

I am going to:

-Polish and install the grab bar.
-Install other small parts. (back pilot box cover, upper frame covers, etc)
-Replace the stock tank and frame cover emblems. They are on order now.
-Add a windshield. Probably a smaller option like the Slipstream Spitfire.
-Add black bar end weights. On order.

What do you guys think about paint for the tins? I like a black base.

Can't say much about painting the 'tins', but I would suggest a silver ceramic coat on the header.

I don't remember from your carb (spit & polish) thread, ... did you re-jet your carbs?

.

Black with a purple pearl.....but make the purple subtle.....

Forgot to mention, I am having the pipes ceramic coated "chrome."

Yep, rejetted with a Stage 3 DJ kit. You helped me out. And you helped me install my Eastern Beaver Fuse block, and get my valves into spec, sync my carbs, and I'm sure a lot of other stuff.

So why wouldn't you have a say so with my frame covers and tank. :D

I like brighter colors for bikes. If you are firm on black, then mix it up with some stripes. Maybe some red stripes with white piping, or a white stripe with gold piping.

If I had a swept back cruiser like that, I'd go for more pimp schemes. Purple base with some yellow and white accent striping. Something metallic like green or maybe gold with some white striping. A candy apple metallic red maybe.

Not joking or trolling btw.

I'd do a metallic black (silver flakes), with silver pinstripes of some kind.

Having seen a zillion black bikes, I think they look better with graphics of some kind. (Even if the black has metallic added to it.)

Years ago, I painted a bike black that looked good already, because a cousin wanted to buy it, but only if it was black.
Of course, he changed his mind after I painted it....

Just my opinion, though.

Very sharp! Very clean too.
Its a tough call on adding color. With everything black and chrome , personally I think I would get my new tank and frame cover badges on and see what feeling that brings.
I imagine a nice silver pinstriping on the tank and covers.....just enough for some unique and tasteful detail.
Nice resto!
