A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

What size bolts fit the oil filter lid studs?

I thought it was M8 or M10, so I got both. Both are too big.

Is it M6?

Yes, it's M6. I don't remember the length of the STUD. Look at the Suzuki part number. The second half (after the hyphen) will likely start with 06, then maybe have 25 or 30, then one more digit, which might be a number or a letter. The 06 is the diameter, the next two digits are the length.

The stock stud has a ring without threads that is a bit off-center. Install the shorter end in the block, leaving the longer end to hold the lid.

01421-0620A-000 is what the baggie is labeled with.

Guess its back to the store tomorrow.

I have this idea of trying to use wing nuts for the two nut system to remove the old studs and put in the new ones.

And I have gotten a good torque thing now, so no more messing up the threads!

I don't believe the part number=size applies to studs like it does to bolts/screws.

I replaced the filter cover studs on my 750 (same OEM part number) and the stock ones were longer than 20mm. I don't remember the exact length but I replaced them with 35mm studs. You could probably use 30mm studs.

My theory is the part number shows the equivalent screw length. Maybe you could use a 20mm screw in place of the OEM 30-35mm stud.

It is a 6mm stud with total length of 32.6mm. The short threaded side is about 12mm long and the long threaded side is about 15.6mm long. The non-threaded part is about 5mm long.

Just to verify.......

you asking about the nut to fit on the stud ... ?

or are you asking about the stud (bolt) .... ?

or..... You trying to put a bolt thru the cover into the engine case.....?

In either, there would also be a question of what thread pitch.
And for the stud, ... someone can verify, but I think i recall the pitch for the end in the engine case is different than the pitch for the other end for the cover nut.

I found bolts that fitted, and I managed to put the new studs into the engine case. So now I will hopefully have a non leaking motorcycle.
