A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Completed maintenance:

full carb clean and gasket replacement
intake boots replaced
valve clearances put in spec (all 0.04-0.05mm as measured by suzuki shop manual)
oil/filter change
air filter cleaned
new battery

So.. when I fill my gas tank and hook it up, should I set it to prime? How much choke should I use?

And how in the hell am I supposed to adjust the idle screw while the carbs are on the bike?:D Right now I have it turned in ever so slightly.

I just want to make sure I don't miss anything when I start her up for the first time this weekend.

I will hopefully be able to capture video for everyone. You all have been absolutely invaluable in helping me get my GS back to running condition. THANK YOU!

How much choke should I use?

Try 1/2 to 3/4 at first.

And how...am I supposed to adjust the idle screw while the carbs are on the bike?

You should be able to reach in from the left side and adjust the idle screw.

If you need to adjust the pilot/mixture screws you'll have to take off the tank and rig up an alternate source of fuel while you fiddle.

Nice work on your bike. You'll be riding happy in no time.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I wouldn't use any choke at all, jsut crank the starter for 15 seconds or so, no choke, and then use choke for actual start, gives the oil a chance to work its' way to rod bearings and cylinder head. When I started my
650 awhile back, I was so excited to get it running, I used full choke first try, and she kinda raced some before I slapped the choke back down- couldn't have been too good, and it seemed that later in the season I was hearing a rod knock softly @ idle-probably a little paranoid, but she's got 35K on it:(
