Hi folks; I have an '82 GS1100G and I'm re doing my clutch, I've checked BikeBandit and Z1 and see a number of different options. Can anyone recommend a complete kit for someone who is predominantly a touring rider and no longer (does a lot) of street racing:lol: Many thanks Paul

And stock springs too.

Most of the time the stock plates last the life of the bike, but the springs sag with time and allow slippage. Before ordering plates I'd inspect them with calipers to verify they are actually worn. If not, I'd try new stock springs before springing money for new plates.

to measure really is to know!

to measure really is to know!

So I sold my first GS1100G but as the clutch was dragging I pulled the plates out of my remaining 1100 with only 6500Mi on it and the clutch then behaved very well with no drag!
I mic'd the fibre plates and the specs were within the given tolerances but the metal plates showed signs of well almost a burn in spots. I want my remaining GS to be able to "go the distance" and really don't want to reassemble this very lovely looking bike with a clutch that isn't working well.
The bike I sold runs like a top with the plates from this bike so I suspect that something is up with either the metal or fibre plates.
I priced out OEM stuff from Boulevard and BikeBandit etc and the prices are well over 250 to replace it all. Hence my questions if I can get better performance from the EBC SRK for around 220 shipped or just replace the fibres for around 130 with the EBC SRC kit. I think BlowerBike has a NOS clutch avail for around 250.
I'm worried though that the burned looking spots on my metal plates may be what caused the previous bike to drag when in gear with the clutch pulled in.
I really would like my remaining GS to be a problem free machine and don't mind doing the right thing with it. I don't want to have to use a gorilla grip every time I change a gear as with the Barnett rig. Feedback is greatly appreciated. Cheers Paul

I like to refer to one of Ed's favorite statements; "to measure is to know".

If it needs frictions because they are worn, put them in. If it needs steels because they are warped, replace them. The same thing goes for the springs as well. Sure you can go ahead and replace all the steels and frictions if you'd like, but if they are still serviceable, why?

that be me..lol
NOS asbestos fibers and new steels ready to ship.
don't get no better.:D

and just another FYI.
measure the fibers till the cows come home but that isn't going to stop them from being hard/charred ect..
no grip anymore even though they measure within spec.
the fibers get hard from heat cycles...simple as that and there is no fix for that except for replacement or HD springs.:twistedevil:
