    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

what was that about K&N oil filter orings not fitting?

just changed my oil and used a new K&N oil filter. had a hard time getting the little bugger to stay seated in the groove as it was twisted from being in the box.

I boiled it in water in the microwave, just long enough to get a few bubbles in the water, not making soup or anything :wink: that seemed to help it a bit and I got it on and all snugged up.

filled the engine and started it up just to flush it all out for morning, the oil pressure light went off, good, but then I heard splattering!!

looked down and there's all my brand new oil on my d@mn walkway!!! :evil: it came out of the oil filter cover.

so I remember someone saying they don't fit very well, but it could have just slipped out of the groove on the way in, I did see a turn of it hanging out the bottom, that must hvae been it. :cry:
 
I have yet to find an aftermarket oil filter o-ring worth a damn. I always order Suzuki o-rings for this exact reason. They seat better in the groove and give much less trouble when installing the cover.

I change oil every 1000 miles and have reused cover gaskets many times before replacing. The key is to not overtighten the cover or pinch the o-ring, put a little fresh oil on it before closing it up. Works every time with no leaks.

I know people knock the Fram filters, but I have never had a problem with the enclosed o-rings that I didn't cause myself (pinched one once)...

I did notice if I put just a trace dot of gasket sealer in a few places on the cover it seems to help keep the oring from folding or rolling before I can get it on. No gobs or anthing, barely enough to even see, just something to make it stick to the recesses long enough to get it on.
 
Try putting a little grease in the groove to hold the o-ring. It's always worked for me.
