A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am starting a new project. Bought the bike for 175 dollars. Anyone an idea?

175! great deal!.....to start i`d change all the wheel bearins and a tune up..thats a 550?

Once the bike is in good working order...

All the pieces look good, I'd go for a new paint job. Maybe some snazzy, super-pimp, two-tone job like electric purple with a wide gold stripe.

Whatever you do, make it stand out. It's in really good shape and you should let it draw the attention it needs.

It is

It is

Yes it is a GS550 from 1978, with an engine from 1981

Besides all the standard replacements, I'd put a butt kickin paint job on it, find a heat sheild for that little bit of black that sticks out on the exhuast, drop the rear end an inch or so and find a cafe type or 1/4 fairing painted to match the bike. Clean and or paint the motor and polish up all the aluminum and then ride it like crazy.

Question about lowering

Question about lowering

Hi Jay

Lower just the rear? Or also the front?

Thanks

If all you've got is $175 in that thing then you've got plenty of cash left over for some parts, right? K&N pods, header, re-jet kit, shocks, fork springs with 15 weight oil, swap the spokes for more stable mags with an extra rotor (a caliper would be nice too) on the front, tires, a normal paint job (no flames, Nike swooshes, etc), Corbin seat, chain and sprockets, Dyna S ignition. Probably around 800-$1000 depending on how cheap you get the parts, who does the work etc. That thing will look great and run like a scalded ape for a really cheap investment. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice bike, would make a great caf?-racer, if you want you can check out the 750 I just build by clicking on the "www"under my name.
By the where in Holland are you from?

Hup holland hup
