    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

whats included in the caliper piston set?

hi guys,

sorry to be a pain....i am about to order a front and rear caliper piston set for my 78 gs750, and i need to know if the oem piston set includes the seals or if i need to order them seperately....i have been told that they do, but, for some reason, i am skeptical. anyone have any experience with this? thanks!!

oh, and before you say "call them and ask".....i have. 3 different places....but their answer was something like...."uh.....hm......i, uh.....mmmm.......yyyyeah....it should come with everything you need for the pistons" me: so it comes with the piston seals and dust boots and all the rubber bits?" them: "umm.....yyyyeah. looks like it should".

not too inspiring on the ol' confidence level. i got the same response from flatout, babbits, my local guy, and bike bandit. i dont really trust any of em.
 
so are you going to order #5 and 6 in the diag or an after market kit?

One of the two, Babbits or Bike Bandit sells a "rebuild Kit" that is the pistons and all the seals. That's what I bought.
 
i think im gonna get it from flatout....their prices are really good, and chris has been very responsive (of late) to the concerns of the forum. maybe hey have the rebuild kit? i looked at the aftermarket kits from z1, but they dont have the pistons in them. do you remember what you paid, doc? im gonna need caliper pistons and seals front and back and m/c rebuild kits front and back too....this is what i get for upgrading to ss lines....pandoras box. oh well, it NEEDED to be done, from the looks of my calipers and m/c's, it is a miracle i am still alive......i learn something new about my bike all the time.....

oh, one other question, if anyone is paying attention....i was considering soaking my shtuff in carb dip.......i know the manual says only to clean it with brake fluid, but there is NO WAY brake fluid is gonna get the job done. also, i want to strip and polish my calipers, ala.....someone else on this forum, it looks HOT. thanks, i gotta go to a retirement party now......hopefully they will have cocktails....

I'd use paint stripper if you want to get the paint off. Just make sure you wash it all off...and I mean ALL. Flush with LOTS of water/thinner depending on what kind of stripper you use. Carb dip would also work but again, make sure you get it clean afterwards. And don't forget about the other seals/boots on the calipers - there are several.

As a side note, the stock calipers on the early 750's are pretty weak, the later designs are better. Would be worth the effort to upgrade in my opinion but you make the call.
 
Didn't look up your model, so not even sure if available, but for my bike rear is $42.00. That's the pistons and all the rubber bits.
 
The Suzuki piston kit for my '85 GS550ES did include seals, dust caps, and a bleeder cap.
 
The piston kit comes with piston and seals as far as I have bought them. You can also buy the seals seperate.

Never know buying a piston on its own. Whats the part number??

well, the suzuki "piston set" on the fische is part # 59100-45833. as for an upgrade, i would love to, but, i only have the single caliper...is there an upgrade for that, other than a fork swap? i would love to do the twin-pot mod with the plate sold on this forum, but.....no joy for us single diskers. i guess i figure with the new ss lines and caliper and m/c rebuild, i should be worlds better than i was. and i ride conservatively anyway, not that that would necessarily help me in an emergency stop, but...if there is an easy, bolt on upgrade available, i am open to it, though after tearing apart my brakes, i am leery of buying any used parts, as anthing needing replacement adds up in a hurry. suggestions?

call Chris @flatout ahead of time and tell him you will place an order but you need to make sure the seals come with the piston, then order your parts.
when the order comes he can look and see what comes with it. if it comes with the seals, great. if not make an additional order, pay for it, and have him ship when it's complete.
just let him know what your plans are ahead of time. if he is worth his salt as a partsman, he'll work with you.

yeah, that is, im sure, what i will end up doing. i was TRYING to avoid having to do the whole "order the parts then see what else i need then order more parts" thing....having chris or whoever check it out would save a few days and some shipping, i suppose, but....ugh. we are still talking minimum 3 days delay for them to get the stuff from suzuki. i want to RIDE. but, alas, it is not to be. the reasons for a second motorcycle keep getting more persuasive. i really need that sv.......that's NEED.
 
btw, thanks for paying such close attention, dale....whereabouts is marysville? we should ride sometime....
