A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Whats that wire? 81-GS850G green with yellow under starter cover

I was replacing my stator this weekend (the wires were FRIED at the connection to the stator - no wonder the thing wouldn't charge!) and I (like an idiot) started digging around.

2 things I have questions on -

I found a green wire with yellow trace nestled beside the starter with a blade female blade connector on it. I traced it back and it went back to where the R/R stator wires connected.

Also I found this stiff little plastic tube going into the top of the engine case - and then coming through the starter are and just going into a hole

My 2 questions - what does that wire go to (everything seems to be working fine on the bike)? And where does that little tube go/ what does it do?

Thanks a ton!

1. The green/yellow wire goes to the oil pressure sender, which is just to the right of the starter cavity. You can barely see where it goes at the top of your first picture link. Look for a small brass pin in the center of a plastic bushing. The connector on the end of the wire is rather unique, it slides onto the brass pin sideways.

2. The plastic tube is the vent for the transmission. If you follow it out of the starter cavity, you will see it curl back to the side of a small cylindrical fitting that is being pointed to in your fourth picture link.

Ahhh thanks for this - should that tube be sitting in some sort of rubber plug so debris doesnt get into that hole? I didnt see any of it called out in the microfiche on Bike Bandit or Partzilla.

That hole is a "black hole"... it's actually just a path out to the underneath of the bike. It's the starter cavity drain hole. Don't block it up.. :)
