A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Is this petcock missing something? I used a small flat head screwdriver to turn it but it just spins, so I'm not sure where it's suppose to be. Should I just replace the petcock? It must work because it was on the bike when I got it and ran fine. Top hose is for gas, bottom hose for vacuum? I've got the gas hose connected to the middle T and the vacuum connected to the 3rd carb, but I don't think the carbs are getting gas. I believe this tank is a 79 or 80, although my bike is a 78 GS1000.

You are a lucky guy to have the nofrills 1980 petcock! No lever to confuse you!

"Should I just replace the petcock?" Good idea even if yours seems to work, cuz it is likely 35 years old. If i recall right, screwdriver slot vertical is the "PR" spot where gas will flow once a little vacuum burps /coaxs it to life. Horizomtal would be normal "ON" where fuel only flows when engine vacuum is tugging it.
Cheap new like this Florida guy

Has to be an 80 tank as the 79 and 78s had the 44 MM bolt spacing So your tank also doesnt have the indentations where then badges set..right???

And I "think" the slot up and down is the PRIme position and flat is the ON position. To PRIme the tank set the slot up and down and hit the button and crank it maybe 2 or 3 revolutions. This sucks the diapram back and it lets fuel flow. May have to repeat the hit starter button a few times till the bowls get full. That petcock works a little "differently"than whats normal.
