    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

When I go to buy a new single deep grove ball bearing for my GSXR wheels, I find there are different types of sealing ? both side no seal, only one side seal or both side seal, and the sealing could be a metal cage sealing or rubber-seal sealing.
What type of sealing to the bearing should I use? Addy
 
I notice that too about a year ago when I replaced a bearing. On the brake side the bearing had just one rubber seal on the outside and nothing on the inside and the bearing on the sprocket side just had a metal cover on both sides.

I guess they think your going to pack alot of grease in the hole before you install the axle??? I think the bearings had different part # too. I just used what the parts guy found on his fich.

Fully sealed should be the go as it stops most stuff getting in. If you change ure mind later you can pop the rubber seal of the side you want. On most Suzuki sprocket carriers the large bearing is exposed on the inside and cant see why as all the dust and grit will get in.

OEM's are usually sealed on one side as it is a price point decision(cheaper) Go with two sided rubber seal for the front and metal side seals for the rear drive side and rubber for the opposing side. You can use a grease needle on the bearings to make sure there is enough lube in them if you choose. Cheap insurance as it keeps grit and water out of the bearings unlike the original ones.

I ran into the same thing restoring/rebuilding alternators for older cars. The numbnuts at the factory originally speced open backed bearings for the drive pulley side. Anyone that periodically washes their engine would get soap and water directly in the bearing. When I started replacing them with double rubber sealed versions, they never failed again!
