    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

When I get to higher RPMs the bike loses power/torque and dies.

Alright, hopefully I can get this figured out this weekend.

When I ride around town 40 mph and under the bike runs fine. When I go on the highway 65mph the bike will run fine then suddenly lose power, after pulling over on the side it won't hold idle. Eventually the bike will die. I can then start it again and everything seems to be fine, until I get to higher RPM again.

I have a feeling it's electrical, but the coils are less than a year old (GREEN DYNA) same with the ignition (DYNA S) just changed the plugs, and the battery is sealed and on a Yuasa tender all winter (battery is also less than a year old). The bike hasn't done anything like this since replacing the ignition (and discovering a shorting wire). The carbs have just been rebuilt by Wired George (less than a week ago) and the bike runs better than ever before until it loses power.

any ideas?

If you had said gradual loss of power, I would guess fuel flow. After all, carbs were the last thing monkeyed with. How sudden is the power loss? Does it take a mile or so after riding ten, or is it more like flicking a switch?
 
It's very sudden, just like flipping a switch. I will be at highway speed and then I won't be able to accelerate and can hear the carbs bogging. If i keep giving it throttle I can keep the bike running but it won't hold idle. Sounds like I might be losing a cylinder or two. Yesterday I was on the highway for about a mile when it happened. I pulled the petcock to see if it was clogged and it still looks new. It is also happening both on prime as well as run.

What's so frustrating, is it will start back up and run fine at slower speeds.
 
it certainly sounds like something is clogged, or perhaps you have a air leak that does not come into play until you open her up. You replaced all your rubbers recently right?... valve cover hose is attached firmly...air box is not loose?... you tried pulling the plugs after the stall and seeing if they are leaned out or damp with gas\?
 
All of the rubbers are new, and the bike's podded. I did just take the gas tank off and discovered the the fuel line was sort of kinked by the carbs. Not completely but definitely kinked. I wonder if that is my problem. I'm gonna go test ride and see if it made a difference.
 
Try it again, when it happens open the gas cap, if the bike runs fine, its a vacum problem. Good be a bad gas cap or faulty vacum line.
 
+ 1 on the fuel issue. My GPz did the exact same thing until I realized the gas cap vent was plugged with Kreem.
Try draining fuel from the tank through the fuel valve, with the gas cap secured, until it stops running. Open the gas cap and watch the fuel flow again!!
 
I feel like an idiot, the problem was a kinked fuel line, from putting the carbs back on.
