Hey guys. I need help finding a whole fuel sending unit. it seems the ones i come across have a leak somewhere and its a frickin pain dealin with it. Im wondering if a suzuki dealership sells them still but right now its too late to call. any ideas???:( Please help

So sorry guys the bike is a 1980 Gs 1000 GT also if there is any other sending unit that would fit from another bike

Quick search indicates this: (note that term "fuel cock" is actually sending unit, but that's correct part #)

Assemblies where 34810-45100 is used
1979 GS850G - FUEL COCK
1980 GS1000G - FUEL COCK
1980 GS850G - FUEL COCK
1981 GS1000G - FUEL COCK
1981 GS850G - FUEL COCK

Whats wrong with yours?? Check the solder connections at the wires going into the flange and under the cover where they solder to the waffle board. Clean it all up in there while you have the cover off and be sure the slider arm things making good contact.

Frank, FWIW, the name used in the parts fiche is "GAUGE ASSY, FUEL LEVEL", item # 10, Part #34810-45100 and is included in the Fiche that is listed as "FUEL COCK".
Does not appear to be available anymore.

The Fuel Cock is available and is $82.71
Item # 1 COCK ASSY, FUEL Part #44300-45011

Fixxxed.....:p

Nice one Frank, way to cover your A$$.:D

If you're referring to the sender unit for the fuel gauge then you won't find a new one anywhere. But yours can most likely be fixed. Mine was sitting in a tank full of old gas since 1993 and seemed beyond repair. But I soaked it in Evapo Rust, tore it completely apart and cleaned it thoroughly. I had to solder on a new wire on the inside the tank portion, but it now works perfectly. Don't give up on the old one too fast.

Cheers!

I noticed the leak coming from the units middle piece where the arm is attached and rotates on. a green little circular piece.I JB welded that up let it sit than it started leaking from somewhere else. I think the first part with the middle piece I took care of. I bought a gasket(used although in good condition) But the u shaped gasket Im not sure about that one??? Also when tightening the bolts on the unit they keep turning so Im not sure if its sealing properly.

Go here and do the OHM test as outlined in the manual. As for the U shaped gasket..thats just for the outer catch cover in case the main one lets loose. Thats not the important one..the round one with the 5 holes is.

And if a bolt just keeps spinning it is stripped and not sealing the round gasket to the metal flange properly. You can retap the hole and drill the corresponding hole in the flange for a larger bolt. BUT remember to use a bottoming tap. this is because youve only got about 3/16 inch till youll hit the tank shell itself and you do not want to poke a hole thru the tank.

Go slow and easy and once then tap has gone thru be very careful. Once its thru just feel for it touch off on the tank ever so slightly and then remove the tap. Slow, easy and delicately doing the repair will win you the race here.

How could I poke a hole through a hole already in the tank???

Sending unit bolts should bottom to the tank, not through the tank. What Chuck is saying, if you have to retap, retap the flange only; don't go long and penetrate the tank, or you'll be chasing fuel leaks... then it's liner time.

Dont use too long of a replacement bolt either or else that will poke thru the tank also. Look at the flange and notice the little dimples under each bolt hole. Thats all you have to play with.

I have the same problem where I'm leaking gas from my 1979 GS750Ls sending unit. The gas is coming out from the center plastic piece where the wires comes out.

It looks like JB Weld is the best fix as new ones can't be found?

Although they are easy to rehab, I had the same curiosity as h1ghw4ym4n5 a while back because I have one completely missing.

When you google images of other Suzuki fuel sending units, you see a lot of other bikes that appear to have the same bolt pattern as the gs1000... but it is hard to say from a picture.

Bending the arm or shortening it doesn't look like a biggie to me if you can get the right bolt pattern.

Hello All
I've recently acquired an 82 GS750E. Purchased as a non running bike. Got it to run the same afternoon after a wash, a charge and some spray starter. Carbs are this weekend. I've come to find the tank a mess. The bike came with a hole in the part of the tank due to a much too long screw. That's another issue. I'm wondering about rewiring/building the sender unit. The wired connections are either broken or attached with a single strand. I suppose I have some soldering in my future. The thought of electricity running through a full tank has me nervous. What precautions do I need to take so that I dont turn my bike into a bomb if the gas were to get low enough and expose fumes to the circuit?

I took mine apart it is a 1980 gs550 The wire is bare in several spots as well as broken off. What wire did you guys use? I am concerned about the insulation as well as a spark if done wrong
