DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am going to replace the wiring harness on my 79 gs 1000e and was wondering what other bikes harness's will work? Does any one have one foe sell fairly cheap? It doesnt have to be perfect, just one that will not envolve me rewireing it from from to back. The one that is on it now has been burnt and butchered. Any and all help is appreciated.

I have a harness from a 80 GS750E and one from a 82 GS850GL.
Im not sure what it would take to get either of them to work.
Maybe someone else does...

Lemme know if you're interested.

Any one else have any input? Or have a harness at a resonable price that is an exact match. Come on I know your out there. :)

Hi,

Don't forget to post in the "Parts Wanted" section and look around on Ebay. Check my website for a procedure to cross-reference part numbers.

Thank you for your indulgence,

i have found several as well on ebay. The ones that look the best al seems to be for a 750. I am guessing that they would be a direct fit if they are of the 76, 77, 78, 79 models years? I was also looking to go as cheap as I could while still getting a decent harness. Just trying to pinch pennies.

Not sure if they are a direct bolt on or not. You might want to compare the wire harness diagrams in the service manual and compare part numbers. I suspect a 750 harness would work but details like the plug for the instrument cluster may be different and/or, where the plugs are at for the regulator, etc may be different as well. The GS1000 has a fuel gauge right, and no gear indicator? The 750 has a gear indicator but no gauge I think. Honestly, I'm not familiar with these models, just trying to stimulate the thought process.

BTW, I adapted a 1000G harness to work in my 1000S. I had to switch over plugs for the IP and coils, extend the tail light harness run, and play around with various other wires until everything achieved a happy fit. It was a lot of work but was unavoidable since a proper harness was not available. You would be ahead of the curve if you just find the right harness to begin with.
