DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

where can i find a set of NEW coils for a 81 gs750L? besides the stealership!

I just picked up a used pair on ebay for $20. I recall seeing tons of gs750 coils on there. Also, if you want brand new and don't mind dropping a bit more cash, you may look at z1enterprises.com. also when i was shopping for mine, I called mikesxs.com which specializes on yamaha xs and they told me that they have a number of coils that would possibly work.

Hi,

The DynaTek coils from Z1 are a popular replacement. Accel also makes coils that work on these bikes.

Thank you for your indulgence,

What makes you think you need new ones? I thought that as well, but the primary tested at 4.9 ohms and the secondary at 500 kilo ohms. This either meant that the secondary side was gone or I had a bad path.

First I unscrewed the plug caps and retested the coils. I now had 14 kilo ohms on the secondary side. That is perfect. This told me the coils were good. I then tested the plug caps, two were 5 and a bit kilo ohms, again perfect, the other two were nearing 500 kilo ohms.

I like to fix things so I pulled the caps apart. Mine were nkg caps so you just pull out the screw (it is held in by the washers) and out falls the resistor and the spring. I cleaned them all up and reassembled and now they both read 5 odd kilo ohms. It turns out these two caps were the outside ones which just fall to the outside of the tank so aren't as protected from the elements.

Reassembles the whole lot and I now have two coils all within spec. Total cost $0.00 and 1/2 an hour of my time. I'll pay that anyday.
