Mark can't you get slotted disks like I have on them?

Now doesn't the rightside eye of the centerstand look like a very good mounting point for a brake anchor?

Yeah I could use those :) Now where to find them.

Mine are of another Kat 1100 and fit perfectly on the 750 wheels, '80 onwards 1000's had them also and I think Nick mentioned that they interchange with the '80+ 850G and 1100G also.

I have another rear disc and brake anchor to mess around with coming in from Germany if everything is okay.

Did a little reasearch, front axle is 15mm, speedo drive from a modern GS500E with 17" front wheel is also 15mm :-k  :D Trying to find a cheap one now and see if 1. the width is the same, 2. the connection to the wheel is the same and 3. the connection to the cable is the same. It sucks that I don't have a scrapyard with some '90's bikes in my area to compare stuff.

Front hub off the GS750 is exactly the same as predicted :D but there will have to be some work done to get a 120/70/17 tire on a 3,5" rim in there...fork brace under the fender has to go and replaced with one on top of the fender. If the stock fender is kept it must be lowered and the radius changed for the best result, I have a spare Katana fender for this purpose.

Rear wheel mounted using this set of spacers from another Katana 1100.

GS750%20setup.JPG

The spacer most to the right was wider them my original, 17mm instead if 13mm but the GS750 rear hub was narrower too by 6mm on one side, brake disc centers nicely, still have to check the chain line though but that will get spaced out anyway when the wider rim/tire combo comes on.

I wanted to keep the stock rear brake when I started this but that is not going to happen with that rim size :? I will go on the hunt for a underslung GSX600F caliper like mentioned in several other wider tire threads on a later date.

Rims are painted and and off to the wheel guy for some nice new spokes and rims. :D I am happy and unpatient right now...it will be about 10 days.

I put a slotted disc from a Katana on the aluminum rimmed rear wheel I got from a 2 valve 1000. It was a simple bolt-on. I can't tell you exactly what Katana it was, as it just had "Katana" written on it with a paint pen from the salvage shop I got it from. 8)

There we go, one set of fat 17'ers! Aluminium Motad rims with stainless steel spokes, extra fat ones in the back for the power

Those look great! What size rear tire is going on?

Tire sizes are going to be 120/70/17 up front and 180/55/17 in the back.

A stock front wheel versus the new 17" wheel being fitted.

Newfrontwheel.jpg

Wheel fitted in the front but something doesn't look right.

Hosespacer.jpg

Front fender is waaaaay too high so I use my air hose taped to the tire as a spacer to take measurements for the new bolt holes.

Fenderlowered.jpg

Front fender test fitted with spacer in place, lined up straight and level on all sides, then mark.
Drill new 8.5 mm holes for the bolts.
My fender needed to be lowered about 65 mm.

Frontfenderfitted.jpg

Final fit of the front fender, looking better then it first did. :D
The old holes will be filled in and the fender painted, this is my spare front fender so I can keep the other one stock.

The brace on the inside of the fender has got to come out as well as the brackets for the brake lines going to the anti-dive units, already disconnected on my bike.

Inner diameter of the fender is 130mm, tire is 120 mm wide, even the lower heads of the stock fenderbolts help in this case

So that is the front tire more or less sorted, can't wait to get my rear fitted, the inner tube is on special order because it's for a 180 tire.

Hey Rob,

I'm not a fan of spokes but they look really good man....and I like the lowering of the fender. The front end looks lowered now and the fender gives it a slammed feel.

Rob.

I like spokes but hate cleaning the alloy rims and spokes!

How is the steering etc on the bike, as the rake and trail must be quite different, not to mention the ride height?

:D :D SHE RIDES AGAIN!!! :D :D

e0jbuitenfotowielen.jpg

I only took a short ride since it's wet and there is salt on the roads but it feels good! Front end turns in faster yet it doesn't feel twitchy but I will test more thoroughly when the roads are dry, the forks are also lowered about 3/4" in the yokes too but I already had it that way with the old wheels for a quicker turn in.

Brand new tires need to be scrubbed in as well as new brake pads.

Saaz the front wheel is a little over 6 cm lower in total so 3 from the axle to the ground, old and new rear wheels are very close in height (but not in width  )

Very sweet robinjo :)
Very very sweet indeed.

More encouragment, this is what I needed.

Thx!

Hey Robin,
Looks great man. =D> Coming this way before the end of the year or do you find it too cold?
