wide tire kit?

If you want to go the easy route and just go alittle wider then you could find an older 5.5'' wheel that uses the same size axel as your 82 GS1100 and bolt it on
This is what I did for my 85 GS1150 I used an older ZX1200 rear wheel

Hrer is a pic of it

Hmmmmm, i wonder if this will fit my GS1000???

ok thats a little too wide. i have a 82 1100 E. i just want to go wider then this

stetracer, i like the size of the 2nd bike. i just spin mine to easy. i want a little more traction but not to much that it wants to keep pulling wheelies

Easiest solution however not the widest is to find a later 3.5" 1150 wheel. Depending on what bike you have you will need to modify the brake stay, but as far as spacing and fabrication its your quickest and safest solution.

Buy better tires ;)

Contact patch will only increase by a very small margin unless you put a flat car type tire on it when vertical. The point of modern bikes having wider tires is to increase contact patch when leaned over. But, go too wide and the bike will handle slow and heavy, unwilling to transition from side to side. Then again, you do live in Florida so I doubt you have much worry of that..

That big 300 tire would probably make the bike slower with all that extra weight to turn

Did it hook up at all? From what I recall those use the 5.7s right. Absolutely useless with all that torque on a motorcycle, especially one that isn't really set up for drag racing. Then again the thing probably weighs close to a car anyway:)
Yeah, this was a model that had a car tire on it, it hooked once he got the monster going. It was a combination of rider ineptitude and massive weight.

im not changing my swing arm or suspension. i finally got it the way i want it sit. i just want a little more rubber.

I would suggest going with a stickier tire rather than having to change swingarms. It won't last as long, but it will hook better.

who makes a good one. i dont ride that much so duration does not matter

All BS'ing aside...

There is no such thing as a GS wide wheel "kit". You will have to adapt on a wider wheel from a different bike.

Easiest upgrade (as mentioned) is a 3.5" wide GS1150 wheel. That will fit after working out details with spacers and the brake stay.

Some guys use GSXR wheels. You will have to modify more stuff though including adjustments to the chain line.

Lots of threads in the archives on these mods. Be warned though, it's a fair bit of work.

Pirelli sport demons are generally considered the stickiest of sticky when it comes to bias ply tires. Not expensive but not cheap either and they are usually dead inside of 5K miles.

Turbostang,
The 3.5'' GS1150 wheel you will never get a good compound tire for you need a 5.5'' rear wheel to get a good compound. A Shinko Stealth in a 180/55/17 ( $122.19 and free shipping) and your traction problems will be gone. Use a 92 gsxr 5.5'' and up or any Bandit 1200 rear wheel from 97 to 05 and it will be easy to install it uses the same size axel as you bike does now.
You already have the aftermarket swingarm on your bike.
All the negitive nillies just don't understand the need for more traction. Do you have plans on drag racing it? I know your close to Gainsville. Gainsville is one of, if not the best tracks I have raced at.

What about the front? now you are running a radial rear and a bias on the front..not a good combination. The 1150 swap is the best without seriously compromising the integrity of the stock set up.

Ya I noticed the swing arm , but for some reason I was thinking that you were going to change it to go to a FAT tire. If you try and go with say a 5.5 gsxr tirewith your setup as is you are going to run into issues with chain alignment, and Ground clearance. The tire and wheel you have on there right now is all that is keeping you from sitting on the ground. I can't say I have ever seen a performance radial tire in a 90 profile, Which is what you will need to keep the pipe off the ground with that setup.;)

No he will just need to use a different size struts in the back to raise it up a little to make up for the lower profile tire
