    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

will 83 650 8v cam work in 85 550 16v motor?

think I found why my motors not running,, both cams are wiped out I believe. all lobes have flat spots, and the exhaust tach gear is chewed up bad

if they don't,, would the 82 550 8valve cam work in the 16valve motor?
 
what is the difference between the 2,, the 650 cam has steeper ramps, but same length,etc.
 
apparently they wont fit, the 650 cams woulda rocked in the bike :)

I don't have those two cams in front of me to compare, but just thinking about it tells me they are different.

The 8-valve cams push directly on the valves (via shims and buckets, of course). The 16-valve cams will push on a cam follower that is forked so it pushes on two valves. Because the cam pushes near the middle of the follower, the valve will move farther than the height of the cam lobe. Mixing the two systems could be ... well, ... interesting.

Besides the difference in lobe height (probably ultimately resulting in the same valve lift), there is probably a difference in timing. Not necessarily how long the valves are open, but when they open. The valve opening itself might be exactly the same, but the 16-valve cam will be pushing in a different direction on the follower to achieve that timing.

Again, this is all GUESSING, but I think you will get the idea that a LOT more research will have to go into this before you start casually swapping cams.

the 8v and 16v cams are wildly different. different lobe profiles, cam timing and clamping caps. tacho is in the head in the 8v and in the valve cover on the 16v ( if fitted ).
8v is bucket and shims, 16v is tappet adjusters
 
yes, I will search for stock cams now,, and research another day. thanx a lot for all your guys help
