A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Nope. Sorry brother. You'll need to find one from a 550 or 650. And I'm not even totally positive a 650 would work though id bet so. Someone here with one of those two bike would know better but I do know a 750 won't fit.
And for what it's worth, there wasn't a 76 550 model. Not even sure there was a 77 model as the first two GS production bikes I am aware of were the 76/77 Gs400 and Gs750. Does your frame label have the date of manufacture on it as 76? Cause if so you may have a bit of a rare bird there?

its a gs550 with a kickstart

its a gs550 with a kickstart

the model i have is the gs550 with the kickstart . Sorry but I do not know the year it was made since the sticker on the steering head is peeled. Id have to call DMV i guess after I get done with it and in running condition. Thanks though

Throw a post on here with the model and VIN numbers and any other info from the label on the frame. Someone will be able to help you with the age of the bike and other particulars

Kevin, the GS550 was introduced to the public in 1977, it was referred to officially as the GS550B, the “B” being the initial for the ’77 year.

Below are the details of my ’77 GS550B model, with the engine and frame numbers.

I have also attached the engine and frame numbers for the years 1977 and 1978, so you should be able to work out where your engine number and frame number fit into the equation.

If you post your engine and frame numbers we can help you with dating your machine.

In Australia there was no VIN number in 1977, only a chassis/frame number and engine number. There was an aluminium plate riveted to the steering head stem with all of this data on it. What do you mean yours peeled off.

MY SUZUKI GS 550 DETAILS

MODEL: GS550b
ENGINE NO. GS550-111335
FRAME NO. GS550-109171

FIRST ENGINE NO. IN ’77 for GS550 was 100001
FIRST ENGINE NO. IN ’78 for GS550 was 114441
FIRST FRAME NO. IN ’77 for GS550 was 100001
FIRST FRAME NO. IN ’78 for GS550 was 110407

Also on the plate on my steering stem is the build date -- yours should have the same. Let us know what it is.
