Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

will a 82 850 motor work in a 77 750 frame

Save yourself the time and agony sell the 750 engine still in the box take the money you were going to spend on the 850 and and buy a 1100 engine:D they bolt right in.

Drop that in your 750 frame and try not to smile to much.

Search 7/11 swap on the forum that should get you started.

I believe that's for 16 valve 750 not the 8.

Anyway, any thoughts on grinding the sleeves? Acceptable practice?

1000 fits in 16v. frames with a left front mount swap i believe.
8v. 750 is by itself.
anything can be made to fit but not a simple bolt in.
just because the 750 and 1000 is an 8v. does not mean they interchange.

i also would like to add...
i thought the 80 and later 850 had a roller on top of the cam chain like a kawi.
the 750 8v. does not.
if this is true i'm not sure of the problems it would cause or if you just need to use the entire 850 head assy.
cam chain length/timing issues ect...
a 750 8v. engine should be able to be bought for 50 bucks and up.
why make things difficult

750 DOES have the roller gear over the cam chain.....

The 750 8v has the roller too. If this is the roller you mean:

i'm glad that i put.."i thought" in the above post about the roller differences because "i thought" wrong.
i'd still shop around a little for a 750 engine cheap and just install it be be riding.

1000/1100 8V had no roller/idler whatever you want to call it. That thing makes it a pain to install/time your cams correctly, usually takes me a couple tries and I've done more than a few... Not sure why they did away with it...you'd think it would serve to make for less wear and tear on the tensioner and chain guides, no? Dunno. Hard to count the pins with it in, though. ;)

Btw, to the original poster... Where are you located??? I have a couple of 750 motors laying about... All need some work (mainly freshened up with new gaskets) or if you could somehow get your motor in a box to me, I could get it back together for you for relatively cheap if you don't feel up to the task. Honestly the best way to learn to work on these things is just to get in there and do it... But that requires patience and time and a little money sometimes, and I know not everybody has one or more or all three...

That sounds interesting..what years would work from the 1000 ?

Any of the 8V 1000 motors WILL fit in a 750 frame. They're actually shorter in footprint by a bit if I understand correctly as they have no kicker and associated gear, so the cases were a oil shorter and lighter. There's a permanent mount in the frame on the left side that would have to be adjusted for... But if you look around or do a search on a "7/10" swap I know there are a couple of different companies that make custom motor mounts for this purpose.. And I'm pretty sure the 16V 1000 katana motor will fit too.. That would be a hell of an upgrade! :) nice light 750 frame and body, with a pretty good increase in power. But finding a 1000 katana motor mght be tough. An 8valve 1000 motor would be damn fun too... I've wanted to do that swap for years but never find a 1000 motor that's nearby worth the money...

a 1000 will not bolt in to a 8v. 750 frame...
come on:confused:

Might ask TKent, Dardoonk and others who've done it about that. It's not a direct bolt in.. The mounts need adapted, but there are kits out there to do it...
