    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Will an 80' GS1000 tank fit on a 79' GS1000?

Hi all...

I'm having some fuel tank problems(check the wanted listings) and I was wondering if anyone knows if a 80' GS1000 fuel tank will fit a 79' GS1000 without any modifications? The bad tank on my 79' has the filler in the center, and the one I'm looking at below is off center....does this make a difference?

Ive tried searching the forums, and some say it will fit, and other posts say it wont??? This fuel tank issue is depressing..ugh:(

I e-mailed the seller earlier today with some other questions, no response yet so, we'll see. If I knew that it fit I would buy it immediately...ugh:cry:

The '80 tank will fit the '78 and '79 if it is the same general shape. look at the bikes on this site, and you will see the two types of tanks. http://www.suzukicycles.org/All-Suzuki/all_suzuki_models.html. The fuel petcock on the '78 and the '79 are the same, but the '80 petcock is different, so don't plan on using the older petcocks with the tank. The fuel level sending unit fits the '78 and '80, so I am assuming it also fits the '79. The '80 GLT and GT models have a different tank from most of the other models. It's confusing enough. I just replaced the tank on my '78 GS1000E with an '80 model NOS tank. Apparently those are the only ones left for these models.

Watch it. I dont know the 1000E models well enough but THAT is a 1000G tank. SHould still fit, but i dont know that they are the SAME tank.
 
Thanks guys..talk about confusing...I still don't know the difference between a G and an E, or a standard GS1000 for that matter, which I think mine is...Heres a profile pic of mine below..

You seem to have the GS1000E model. Your seat is aftermarket and not stock. The tank you saw on Ebay looks like one of the GT or GLT models. They had higher pulled back handlebars, triangular battery and electrical side covers and what appears to be slightly longer front forks. They also had a stepped seat similar to yours, but a higher step.

That's a GS1000N model, E has cast wheels and duel disc brakes in front.
 
See!!! I'm still confused...some say its a N, some say its a E...hmmm

Well I'm going to guess that the tank on ebay will not fit, it just looks..well...different, and not long enough, a little too rounded..so my search continues.

Anyone out there have one...please:cry:

I have extra 1979 GS1000E tanks, and I need a 1980 GS1000E tank. Trade?
The two are identical except for the petcock placement and bolt spacing, but due to the use of CV carburetors on the 1980 model, they don't interchange easily.
 
I wish I had a tank to trade you..I dont tnow if the one on e-bay is what your looking for as its a G model tank. If your interested in selling your extra one please PM me or e-mail me jeff_teeter@hotmail.com ... I'm beginning to think I'm going to be parking this bike and taking it off the road if I dont find a replacemt soon...kind depressing after just buying the bike to find this..

The model designations can sometimes get confusing.

The full model code includes a year code; 1978 was C, 1979 was N and 1980 was T.

In 1978 Suzuki sold a basic GS1000 and a GS1000E (with cast wheels and dual disc brakes in front). So the full designations are GS1000C, GS1000EC (1978),

For 1979, those models became GS1000N and GS1000EN, plus there was a SN model.

1980 was GS1000ET and ST.

Don't forget the '79 GS1000LN and the '80 GS1000LT.

Hi Rover...

Well...It looks decent from 10 feet, but the entire seam is pretty much split on the left side just above the cam cover area. The previous owner slathered it up with 5 minute epoxy, and some kind of silicone, and painted over it. I didn't really notice it when I bought the bike, but it didn't take long for it to start bubbling the paint up, and now its gushing. There are obvious signs of body filler on the tank in other areas as well. I could probably send it to someone and have it welded, but I think the holes are too big to seal from the inside, and welding it up and sealing/painting it might end up costing more than a solid used tank????

I really dislike sellers who ain't honest, and now I know better to pick over things with a fine toothed comb before buying..ugh
