A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Will SuperTrapp headers interfere with oil filter change?

All, I have a nice, NOS, SuperTrapp exhaust and I'm wondering if it will interfere with changing the oil filter on my 83 1100ED when installed? Not sure I want to removed the stock exhaust if that's the case.

If it's a 4-1 then it most likely will need removal for oil changes. Pictures of the header would help us be certain of that.

Most "street" headers are okay, it's the "race" headers that interfere.

A fair percentage do not. If it comes right under the belly then not. For example, most V&H can be changed without removal.

How do you get at the oil filter with a 4-1 in the way? There is no way I can do the filter on my 1100E with the Kerker header in place.

Ok, yes, the headers are in the way but it looks like it might sneak by with them installed. I'll change the filter before installing headers and since I don't ride this 83 1100E much it'll be fine for a while.

The bike came with a CH6012 filter that doesn't fit. Went to Walmart and Autozone and neither have the required CH6000. Ordered on Amazon prime and I should have two of them on Monday.

Something else, the header crush washers came easily out of the outside exhaust holes but are being stubborn on the inside two. Any suggestion on getting these out?

Small flat tip screwdriver or dental pick. Don't worry about damaging them, as you'll want to install new gaskets.

The supertrapp on my 1150 only has to come off for an oil filter change, (which I don't do at every oil change). It's not a big deal, I don't take it apart, just 8 Allen bolts and the hanger, it weighs nothing,
I don't often change the crush washers.

That's kind of what I'm seeing also.
