    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Wiring harness clean-up / refurb - help needed

Hi, everyone.

I've spent the last two nights scouting around the new & old forums, and BassCliff's site to find instructions with photos of how to remove, clean, replace connectors (including exactly which connectors to buy, what sizes, how many, how to do the shrink wap, soldering, crimping, etc etc), and generally improve the electrical flow of my moto. I have a now-not-running 1982 GS650 GL that is not moving (I THINK) because of corrosion and crappy connections. At least, that's where I'd like to start.

Articles from the old forum collected in BassCliff's "electrical odds and ends" comes the closest, with great directions, but being a complete newbie to wiring, I have no clue about the hardware involved, or "how to do it". I'm a firm believer in "a picture is worth a thousand words", too, and find I understand things a lot better when there are photos involved. Any visuals anyone can point me toward would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

Greetings and Salutations!!

Hi Mr. bigredhorse,

If you check the stator and r/r unit replacement guides on my site you'll see me using a crimper to install spade connectors. Different connectors require different crimpers. The actual hardware is up to you. I tend to replace bullet connectors with spade connectors. The molex connectors (having 3-8 connectors in one plastic housing) can be replaced with similar items, they do not have to be exact matches. Just whatever works for you. The current doesn't really care what connectors it flows through as long as they are tight and clean.

Even though you've been to my site, I'm going to give you the "mega-welcome" anyway, just because I like you....:)

Hi, BassCliff, and thanks for the welcome!

Actually, that's Miss Bigredhorse, but you'd have no way of knowing that. ;)

Also, I have been a member here a couple times before, but each time the forums get migrated to a new home, my name gets dumped. I guess you could call me an old-new member.

I'll check out the photos on your site. Thanks again!

Do you have a manual?
You'll have to beat the boys back with a stick. We don't have too many miss/mrs. around here.

Welcome back Miss bigredhorse. Pardon my misnomer. It's not very often a lady will join this bunch of hairy-legged, grease-stained, dirty-fingernailed curmudgeons.
